Jets should have Woody's plane fired up and ready to court blocking TE's as if they were Brett Favre right now... Lions Cut Tight End Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 29, 2009, 10:36 p.m. Five days removed from drafting Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew in the first round with the 20th overall pick, the Detroit Lions have cut tight end Michael Gaines, Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports. Just a year ago, Gaines, a former Carolina Panthers seventh-round draft pick, had signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Lions. Regarded as a blocking tight end, Gaines became obsolete with Pettigrew?s arrival, which gives the Lions six tight ends on the roster currently.
Blocking TEs are easy to be found, if none of the UFAs can get the job done, there will be someone who gets cut during camp, who we can pick up. no need to worry, especially, caus we already have our passcatching TE, which is much harder to find.
I think Gaines would be a good pickup. Him and Wilcox from Baltimore are the two I am hoping we take a look at.

Wasn't it Turner last year? Live game experience for our back-up tackle and a very effective blocker (for a tight end).
Gaines would be an excellent pickup. Good blocker at nearly 280 pounds, and not an entire stiff in the passing game. Do it if he's cheap.
Gaines makes a ton of sense. Should be a no brainer signing. Wilcox is more of an H-back type. I remember him from when he was in camp a few years back. -X-
To all those fans who thought we shouldn't have traded our 4th rounder because we needed to pick up a blocking TE. Late draft picks aren't quite so valuable in the salary cap, bad economy era. Keep collecting them Pats fans.
