I agree. A rebuilding team should be giving Cotchery a lot of downs to sort his stuff out. McCareins in the slot becomes a lot more feasible, both on his ego and on the Jet's clubhouse, if he gets beat out by an emerging young Jet receiver as opposed to specifically bringing somebody in to replace him.
The last thing we need to worry about is JMacs ego.. Fact of the matter is we are a better FB team with Porter than without.. Its hard to make assumptions on this rumor until we know the complete principles of the trade.. Its not gonna be only Porter to swap spots in the 1st..Until we know the full draft pick compensation its really meaningless to discuss. But I highly JMacs ego will enter into the consideration process.
Instead of closing this, I am changing the title to reflect that it is just a rumor. Try and be more careful when posting... Thanks ..
Come on. Porter has done it in this league, and Cotchery has not. I don't object to people saying Porter is not enough value to move down 3 spots.. I can live with that opinion. However, Cotchery has not shown a thing on the field to prove he's even worthy of carrying Porter's jock, so please do not use that as a comparison.
A smoke screen thats all it is, the jets already have two possession receivers in Coles ond McCareins, I highly doubt that we would add another one when what we need is a speedy receiver.
In case you guys are new to this board, or you haven't caught on yet, WHEN SOMETHING IS REPORTED AS "ESPN RADIO IS REPORTING" it is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS bunk. -X-
Thank you, finally somebody hits the nail on the head. Porter is a worse reciever than McCairns, and nobody has any arguement against that simple fact except "JMac sucks!"
first off, porter has been in the league longer. porter has also been "underrated" his whole career. cotchery meanwhile has been stuck behind the coles/moss and mccareins show. (which i think had to do with the staff not developing younger players) mccareins IMO is a better slot reciever than number 2. using his body to create space across the middles and when he crosses routes with his own recievers. cotchery on the other hand, after never being given a chance, actually showed at least some reason for him to get more looks on an offense that was a joke. all i said was, put cotchery at the number 2 and he'll put up similar numbers for a cheaper price. considering porter hasnt even had a 1000 yd season i would say that makes SOME sense. oh yeah put him across moss too im sure he can come close to the great prowess of Porter.
it would be amazing for the jets, but I dont really understand why the raiders would do it....owell it would be payback for ripping us off with Jolley
Add to that, the Raiders will take a 7 million cap hit if they trade Porter. Hmmm, 7 million cap hit to move up three spots to pick up a player that is likely to fall to them. I don't think so.
When somebody says that the Jets will only throw the ball 400 times this season it makes me scratch my head. At this point in time we have absolutely NO IDEA what kind of offense will be run by Shott. We could be going to the run n' gun as far as anybody knows. To point to SD's offense last year is a mistake as Schott WAS NOT the O coordinator. As far as this particular deal - I like the thinking. If we were moving down it's because the FO feels it can get the player it wants a little cheaper. Rather than aquiring more picks, let's see if we can get another player who can step in and help. Porter is a nice addition because he takes some of the pressure off of Coles and Mcareins especially. Without knowing our offensive philosphy however it is hard to endorse. If we don't plan on running alot of 3 WR sets it doesn't make sense to me as that is a ton of money to have wrapped up in our slot(be it Mcareins or Porter). Who knows - maybe we can fleece them out of Jordan instead of Porter(wishful thinking doesn't hurt if you don't bank on it).
According to the value chart, the #4 pick is worth 1800 pts and the #7 pick is worth 1500. That means Jerry Porter should be valued around 300 pts in this trade (in other words, a late second round pick). Personally, I don't think he's worth that much. I'd rather have the Jets get the Raiders' second round pick instead.
