One person gives up a $5 bill, another gives up 3 $1 bills. Clearly the person who received the 3 $1 bills wins that trade, because they received 3 of them as opposed to the 1 that the other received.
To a fan that doesn't follow the Jets, yes we did. To anyone who pays attention to our team, then not at all. We gave up, essentially, one draft pick to climb up 12 spots. Coleman is replaceable, Elam is nothing special, although he could be...AND if Ryan is willing to depart with two defensive players, I'm confident that it's alright. and Ratliff, regardless of how any of us feel about his play, has never taken an NFL snap. He may be good, but as of now he's nothing. Especially compared to Sanchez's talent. The biggest thing about this trade, we didn't lose ANY picks in next years draft. That is huge, the 2010 draft is going to be one of the most talent filled drafts we've ever seen.
Out of the bunch .. Coleman was probably the biggest loss. He wasn't an impact type of player but he does his job well. However, he is someone we could easily replace. So No .. we didn't overpay
I believe Mangini over-valued his former players none of whom would play a major role for us going forward so scratch the players and just look at the picks we traded up from #17 to #5 and only gave up a 2nd rd pick you do the math we fleeced:rofl2: the Browns.
This is an impossible question to answer at this point. Sanchez will be worth it if he turns out to be the outstanding QB and leader everyone believes/hopes he will be. If he turns out to be less than very good for us and one or more of the players we surrendered in the trade with Cleveland emerges into a top player, it surely won't have been worth it. Since there is nothing that can be done about it at this point, its best to have faith in Rex and hope for the best.
Had the Jets sat at "17" and gone into the season as presently constructed, would anyone be really buzzed about the prospects of Kellen Clements and a steady-but-not-scary corp of receivers...with Leon Washington as your only home run hitter? Yes, Rex Ryan wants to play smashmouth in the mold of some of the AFC big boys (Steelers, Ravens) but on the other side of the ball the Jets "D" is not at their shut-down level, especially considering their very inconsistent pass rush. You don't fix everything in one draft and one free agent blitz. You build putting pieces into place one piece at a time and if nothing else, the Jets took care of a huge positional question mark involving arguably the most important position on the team. And now? Well now the Jets' can focus on the other pieces via later picks, a trade, a free agent or (more realistically) the 2010 draft--which they didn' compromise with this deal. Look, they're not winning the Super Bowl in this upcoming year. So for now, I can only sit back, watch (and support) Rex Ryan and his staff in trying to put together a team that reflects his "you take a swipe at one of our players, we'll take a swipe at two of yours" mentality. Go git' em Rex! I wasn't sure about this draft pick trade at first (could've gone the safe route), but as the #5 pick approached and ESPN started talking "upcoming trade!" in the works, I'll admit, I got amped.
I have never seen a such a lop-sided vote on this site. Could it be? Have Jets fans finally united under a common opinion? All Hail Sanchez!
They're similar in ability would be my guess. Coleman is a couple of years younger, but Douglas knows Ryan's defense. It gives me comfort to know that Ryan is very familiar with Douglas' ability. What did the whispers say?
I don't think anyone really thinks we overpaid to move up to #5. If anyone thinks we gave up too much, they think we gave up too much for what they (myself included) perceive to be a very overhyped player, but in terms of moving up to 5, no.
Absolutely not..2nd round and 2 rotation players (one totally over payed) and back up quarterback I liked Elam & Ratty but this is a possible franchise quarterback people The Jets need to take this chance ...Look what the Giants gave up for Manning
If you believe the draft value chart the three players equated to the 53rd pick, mid-second round. Not in your wildest dreams could you expect to get a 2nd rounder for those three in any other circumstances.
the only thing i was upset about was giving up the 2nd round pick...i felt we could have used that on a solid RB (McCoy from Pitt) or definitely a WR...but i hope sanchez lives up to the hype...im excited
