I expected us to pick at 17 and was hoping for a croner or else Orakpo/Maualuga. I am, however, decently satisfied with Sanchez, but QB is the hardest position to be happy or upset with on draft day. Here's my worry: We had a horrible pass D last season for what, like the 8th straight season, maybe more? Elam and Coleman were both player on D last year, so their loss does not necessarily mean the pass D will be any better or worse. I know we have Leonard and Scott, but we lost a starting DE today, and if our starters last season were unable to help create the pressure we are supposed to see from a 3-4, then how will we accomplish that with the guys we lined up behind Coleman on the depth chart? Also, we don't have a legit starting corner across from Revis, and even though I think our pass rush was the largest reason for our bad pass defence, having another strong corner on the field would have helped in case we can;t get pressure from the front 7 again this season. Maybe we can pick up a strong player at DE or CB in a later round, but if not, Sanchez mayb always be playing catch-up even if he is great, because we might be looking at another season of giving up a ton of points through the air.
With Marques Douglas signing, Coleman's PT would've been cut in half -- we just dumped his overloaded contract on Cleveland. I believe Ryan is going to run a 3-4 hybrid...switching to 4-3 a lot...using Gholston, Pace, and Thomas at end a lot.
We have a new scheme, thats aggressive... Marques Douglas will play DE unless he gets beat out by Vernon Gholston ( or Gladis, as he's known by some here  ), who, and I'm speculating here, will be moved back to DE where he never has to worry about coverage again and we finally see why we took him with the 4th overall pick last year.
Good point. I wouldn't mind seeing Gholston put his hand down and use his strength/speed off the edge.
We have Lito Sheppard to start opposite Revis, DE is a worry but I thought that we should have gotten rid of Coleman anyway so it isn't much of a loss
i really hope sanchez pans out, but im pissed that we traded up... we need a DE, WR, and i wish we had knowshon
I love that we dumped Coleman's contract and would love to see a 3-4/4-3 hybrid with Douglas and Gholston switching at DE. So Gholston's athleticism is limited to sacking the QB, fine. I don't remember Reggie White or Bruce Smith covering many players down the field. Do what Mangini couldn't and use players in the way they maximizes their abilities. We must get after the QB or else our pass D cannot improve. Ask Ed Reed how much of a difference it makes. And Lito lost his spot last season, that's why he wanted out of Philly. He has to re-prove himself as a starter, I don't think we can assume it...
Colemans price tag was $4.6mil. That's way too much for an avg DE. I am glad he is gone and since he is traded, we take no cap hit. Great move there. I really liked Elam cuz he was a playmaker. Maybe not consistent, but could have been the best backup safety. Both are replaceable however.
As I said, I am not worried about anyone we lost, so I assume this was not directed to me. The problem is that we have not improved our pass D today, and we need to do that this weekend. Lets hope we can get someone effective in the mid or late rounds, a smart pick can accomplish that.
To be fair, adding Scott over Barton, and Sheppard over Lowery, plus Leonard over Elam should be a big help.
