http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/ Welcome to rumor central, the draft-eve version. Here's what I'm hearing: ? Percy Harvin. My peeps tell me the Jets are showing a strong late interest in the dynamic wide receiver from Florida, who has medical and character issues that are affecting his draft stock. On the field, Harvin is a brilliant playmaker, a two-way threat as a receiver and a runner. I'm sure O.C. Brian Schottenheimer could cook up some creative ways to get him the ball, but he doesn't fill the need for a big receiver (he's only 5-11) who can stretch the field. Harvin tested positive for marijuana at the scouting combine, sources have confirmed, and he's not the most coachable player around, teams have told me. In high school, he was suspended at least four times for behavior problems on the field. There are durability concerns, too, specifically an ankle/foot that may require additional surgery, I'm told. So there are red flags, but he is a top-10 talent and the Jets are interested. ? GM Mike Tannenbaum, in an interview this afternoon on WFAN, was at his posturing best, blowing plenty of smoke. He said he expects to be picking from the 17 spot. He said he's talked to teams above and below, which is routine. Asked if there's a chance he could trade for a veteran player, Tannenbaum said it would be "pretty remote. I'd be real surprised." What else is he supposed to say? I know they're checking out veteran QBs, Jason Campbell and Brady Quinn. I also know they're interested in trading up for QB Mark Sanchez. If Sanchez slips to the Jaguars at 8, the Jets will be burning up the phone lines. ? The Cards have lowered their demands for disgruntled WR Anquan Boldin, ESPN is reporting. The Cards, originally asking for first- and third-round picks, are willing to take a second-rounder and other considerations. The Jets are interested in Boldin. So are the Titans and Ravens. The Giants and Eagles also have been linked to Boldin. I think the Jets still have a shot. Wouldn't it be something if the Jets traded their 2 and RB Thomas Jones, who started his career in Arizona? If the Jets traded Jones, they'd be all over Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno or Ohio State RB Beanie Wells. There are some strange vibes coming out of the Jets' facility today, almost as if they're planning for some sort of big move. ? My latest top 3 for the Jets at 17 (notice a couple of slight adjustments): 1. TE Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State 2. WR Percy Harvin, Florida 3. WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
...if we draft Percy Harvin....New York City will go up in flames...like a phoenix. God help us. Even "Spivey Nudity" couldn't smooth that over........well............maybe.
If we draft Harvin, TBDF's ban needs to become a permaban, or the stragglers need to add him to the ignore list. Seriously. It's for the safety and sanity of the entire board.
trading our 2nd + TJ for Boldin, and drafting Moreno at 17? Wow what a day that would be.. Too bad it'll never happen
You guys are acting like Harvin is an automatic bust. The man has a lot of talent, and if we're taking a receiver, I like Harvin just as much as I like DHB, Nicks, or Britt.
It's not so much about whether he will be a bust, but whether or not he gets bustED. Hard to play from the suspended list...
No, no, no. You misunderstand. Harvin isn't an automatic bust. In fact, he could be a great player on a team with different personnel. He's just a terrible fit for us given our personnel and our needs at the receiver position.
that Thomas JOnes plus second for Boldin, we dfraft Moreno idea is so Maddenly perfect. Ideal, as far as I'm concerned and Arizona might actually ahve some incentive for that.
I'd love if we moved Jones and a 2nd for Boldin and picked up Moreno in the 1st. Then we just need a blocking TE and depth along the lines.
Plan: Sanchez for our #1,#3 and #2 2010 Boldin for our #2 and TJ Leon becomes #1 running back and we draft a running back in later round This is all based on the Jets really positive about Sanchez as a franchise QB.
