While true, darafting for Detph is needed and with the Age of a few of our O-linemen it makes great sense. Drafting for WR depth would seem wrong, because we have a lot of young depth type guys. We could use another starter though. Drafting for O-line depth would be smart because some of are starters are getting up there in years and we are very thin at the position.
Doesn't every team in the NFL desperately need depth at OL? I'm happy we have 5 solid starters. I think our biggest need at the top of the draft is playmakers. OL depth can come in the later rounds.
The numbers for 2007, 2008 and 2009 are much worse than that. We've exercised 10 picks in the last two drafts and we have 6 on tap for 2009. That means we're down 5 picks over the last three years or nearly a quarter of our draft. From 2006, the last year that we had a plus draft situation with 10 picks, 6 out of 10 draftees remain on the team - all at least nominal starters counting Leon Washington as a starter because he's the primary KR in addition to his other valuable contributions to the team. Basically whether or not the Jets have broken even in the draft over the last 3 years depends on your opinion of people like Eric Smith, Chansi Stuckey, Kellen Clemens and Dwight Lowery. If those guys become solid players for the Jets then they have broken even over 2006-2008. If not then the Jets are in real trouble at this point.
Apologize for the questions - who exactly are our backups for the OL? Are the Jets lacking #'s for depth or is it the quality? Didn't we draft Nate Garner from Arkansas last year - what is happening with his development? Do we really know what's going on with the Jets 2nd line depth?
Jets added good depth. The Jets signed free agent Michael Kracalik, a 6-foot-8, 337-pound offensive tackle who spent the past three seasons with the Ravens.
The guy is big for sure, but from what I've read it doesn't sound like he's the type of player who could just step in and take over if one of our starters was to go down. Not that it isn't a good signing, but I would assume they need to do more than just that.
given the talent and the money invested in our starters i doubt any OL will be drafted before round 5 this year or next year....until someone needs to be replaced Given that the FO is high on Robert Turner and there are several other projects on the roster...the depth may be added to other positions this year (entire defense)
