OK all you NCAA/draft gurus. I'm not a big NCAA guy so I don't know much about the players coming out. I saw this kid play a couple of times and he looked beastly. What is your opinion of him, and is there a chance the Jets could be targeting him?
I think if we hired a more offensive minded OC there would be a good chance of us snagging him in round 2, I go to Duke so I've seen NC play a few times and I think he will be a very solid pro, however I also think Rex will probably address the front seven in the first round and in the second round I think he will go defense again, either DL or DBs. I think mid-round two is about where he belongs so if we took him second round it would be a decent pick, but as I said i think Rex is going to build this team around defense (as he should).
Hakeem Nicks compares to Anquan Boldin. I'm not saying Nicks will come into the league and dominate like Boldin did, but they are built the same and play a very similar style of football. Nicks isn't the fastest receiver, but he's got sure hands and he's one of the most physical wideouts in the college game. Boldin was pushed down on many draft boards because of his lack of timed speed. Nicks and Boldin have the exact same build. Both are about 6'1 and weigh about 215-220. Wide, strong upper bodies. We can only hope the Jets target him. He's not a first rounder...but he's near the top of my list in the second.
I don't know about that... It will be hard for the G-Men to pass on a taller wideout like Kenny Britt.
Yeah, maybe you're right. Everything will change after the combine anyway and then we will see where they all shake out.
i'm not sold...b/c you never know what will motivate a wr, but in college he would take plays/drives/games off...and didnt seem to care he has all the abilities and playmaking skills...and an impressive highlight reel i think if he puts in the effort he can be very successful...i just dont know if he will ....and if he is successful he is going to be a diva i am a recent unc alumn...so i've seen him play alot i actually like brandon tate as a steal late late in the draft...he was the td machine before he got hurt...he isnt a traditional wr like nicks but is the better all round player
He's not a 1st rounder but he's damned close. A good combine, strong interview and the perfect storm and he could be a late first rounder. Look what happened with Keller. I loved this kid during Bowl week. He was a human highlight reel. I don't know Ryan's philosophy on trading up in this draft, but this kid COULD be our answer at WR.
bump. Now that Nicks has reportedly lost the weight he gained for his Pro Day...he's kind of flying under the radar sorta speak as we approach draft day. I still think the Jets should target him in the 2nd round (especially if Maclin is gone before we pick at 17). I still think he's worth a look...and even though rotoworld has reported that the Jets weren't interested...it could be a smokescreen........thoughts?
Well....I think Parcells has a hardon for Nicks as well....so he may not make it to the 2nd round.....having said that....I'd be comfortable taking him with our 1st rounder. There...I said it. Let the flaming begin.
I still wouldn't mind Nicks in the first. He's not at the top of my list like he was a few months ago, but I really like the fact that he's come back swinging since his abysmal pro day. In an ideal world, I say we trade back into the late 20's and pick him there. I still think he would be an excellent fit on this offense and I think his playing style fits perfectly with Rex's smash-mouth football philosophy.
Nicks or Britt would be awesome, both are big tough receivers with good hands that can make plays. Neither is a burner (altho Britt ran a 4.40) but they can make things happen and could start opening day and be productive
If he makes it to the 2nd it is a no brainer assuming we don't take a WR in the 1st. I'm not too keen on taking any WR in the 1st other then if Maclin/Crabtree somehow make it to 17.
I think that the Jets should deal down in the first round and take him. Pick up a pick or two, and still get the guy that could have a big impact on the team next season. He's not value at 17, but he's not going to be there in the 2nd, they need to make a move. Luckily for us, they aren't really afraid of doing that, recent drafts tell that story.
