This is a guy who has not been talked about much at all. There is a chance he is available at the 29 spot, if he is there can we pass on him? As long as we dont end up with Ngata we will still need a big body. I am not optimistic about Pouha who will be 28 in his second season. If Watson is there, and Mangold is not I think we have to take him. This scenario has not been considered by many people on the board. Thoughts?
Definetely not the type of player that Mangini has said he wants. Watson is so talented, but just doesn't try all the time.
I like Watson a lot!! I really want us to get him at 35 instead of Croyle (who I also really like). If a trade happens with someone and we are able to pick up another 2nd round pick I will be salivating like a thirsty dog for Watson at 35 and Croyle later in the 2nd
i hate watson, he's really lazy and doesn't care, he tested really poorly in interviews (not suprising), was benched a ton at michigan (yeah in college...going into the draft that isnt good) he has talent, and is a fit at NT for the 3-4, which is why he's going to go way higher than he should, there's a high probability this guy busts big time (think jonathan sullivan of the saints...who? yeah who is damn right...)
yeah its a friggin joke..........Like Mangini is the only coach who wants "smart, athletic players, dedicated to winning" gimme a break although you dont draft a player in the 1st rd to "take plays off"
I agree with you, BUT... I bet you'll be hard pressed to find ANY DT/NT over 320 pounds described as 'Hard-Working,' especially out of college. IIRC, most top-rated NT's have the word 'Lazy' attributed to them, Ngata included. I think Watson could be taken at 29 or 35, depending who else is on the board, and it would be solid pick. His DC at Michigan, Hermann (argh!), is now on the Jets coaching staff, so we'll know what he thinks about his ability to be motivated and perform. (And this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a UM alum and I've met him late at night at a burrito place in Ann Arbor with a huge burrito in each hand and a huge smile on his face.)
I had him down for the Jets at #35 in my projections- I think he makes sense. Apparently, he was great at the senior bowl, but was not always motivated last year.
if we get mario, i think we should definitely get him in the second round. He is a big guy, his D-Coordinator is now the linebackers coach, and he can be effective in a 4-3. If we dont get mario and decide to run a 3-4, i wouldn't be surprised if we get him because he ran a 3-4 in college, but i would prefer getting a linebacker like bobby carpenter or something
He's a reach anytime before the late second early 3rd round. Lazy, disappears for long periods of time and wasn't a full time starter at Michigan. Guy flashes top 5 talent and then disappears until the next game. Ellis
yup, if he's there with our compensation pick in the 3rd or one of our 4th (preferably the KC pick) i think he might be worth a flier, but no way do i think we should draft him with one of our day one picks (ill discount the compensation one for now..)
well i know that, i previously stated his position and value in the 3-4 will make him go much higher than he should, there are posts before the last one in each thread you know...
Didn't you notice in my original post that I wrote "he said"? I wasn't making it up, Mangini has talked about the types of players he wants.
Really? OMG, I had no idea you could see any posts in a thread other than the last one. Thanks! Life is going to be so much better now. You've made all the difference. I have a reason to live!
All i keep hearing is that he is lazy, but if he is there in the 4th or 5th we'd be dumb not to draft him.
