Do you think Thomas Jones will be wearing green and white in 2009?

    Why or why not?

I personally believe he will be packaged up and dealt as part of a draft day trade.

Like a lot of people have said, he has more value to us then a 4th round pick, which is about all he's worth at this point.

Pete Kendall had more value to us the season we traded him, but long term he didn't really. Jones may have more value than that this season, but long term the 4th rounder could be a much better investment.

Especially when you consider some of the players we have drafted in round 4 lately

TJ was the AFC's leading rusher and still has more left in the tank IMO. With Kendall I think people felt he didn't have much left, although I thought he played well for the redskins. Still, I don't think it mattered much since we got Faneca who really helped Mangold and especially D'brick. There is no need to trade him in my mind. If anything he could come out and play even better because he knows he might be a FA next year since his cap number with the Jets is almost 7.5 million next year.

good question....i voted "not really sure"...because i think we'll know more once we see how the draft plays out. If we end up drafting a guy like Moreno, D.Brown or S.Green....i would think T.Jones' future with the Jets could be in question.

Financially, he's unlikely to be here in 2010. He's going to be due $5.8 million next season, not counting the prorated portion of his bonus. He knows he'll be a salary cap casualty, giving him some leverage right now, but it's minimal. We can technically afford to let him hold out, since he'll hit us for $1.5 million if he's traded, and $2.5 million if he stays. He has to return and take the field, since he'll kill his market value if he sits and gets cut as a 32 year old RB next offseason. I don't see much incentive to give him a new deal, at least not one that matches his wants. It all comes down to whether this one season is worth that 4th rounder. I honestly don't know. If it's an early 4th, we could pick up a back like Javon Ringer or build some depth in the trenches.

Dwight lowery hasnt proven anything though, he was awful last year and if he wasnt a rookie everyone would want this guy gone.. I hope he improves, but teams were just picking on the guy last year

TJ led the AFC in rushing last season...
He's durable and has a lot left in the tank. It will make absolutely no sense to trade him. Jets would be left without a primary back next season when they have a QB issue and need to put an emphasis on the run.
    He'll stay a Jet

When you have Revis on the other side that will happen. For a rookie I thought he handled it well. He'll only improve

While I agree that we do have a need for him this season and very much hope and believe he'll be in green this season, it's not entirely true that there's no point in trading him. He's not going to be on this team in 2010 unless he significantly lowers his expectations financially. I don't see us paying him what essentially amounts to $7.5 million for that season. No team will trade for him after this season, which means we'll likely end up cutting him and trying to resign him. I'd prefer that to trading him this season, but I don't know what the FO is thinking.

I say he's a Jet this year and will finish out his career here. He knows his age and is coming to grips with it, just like Coles is trying to do while milking it for all it's worth. Push comes to shove, these aging vets know what the score is.

I still like his attitude though. Give him what he wants and let him burn himself out here in NY before retiring. We need to bring in youth at this point.

I think T-J will stay with the NYJs. If he can still run, this is the OL to do it behind.

Yes he'll most likely return in 2009. I only see the Jets unloading him if they get really good value in the form of draft pick(s) in return. He's got one very good season left in the tank before his production starts to tail off.

I agree with those who said we'll probably release him after this upcoming season because he'll be too much against the cap and we need to get younger at RB.
