Buccaneers | Griese likely headed to free agent market Fri, 17 Feb 2006 15:54:08 -0800 Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese appears to be headed to free agency. The Buccaneers need to trim as much as $19 million by March 3 to be under the league's salary cap and Griese holds a $7.083 million hip against the cap this year. His agent, Ralph Cindrich, said neither he nor Griese were prepared to renegotiate his current contract unless a reworked contract were mutually beneficial. Cindrich said he has just received an email from the Buccaneers about Griese, and it was in response to his thoughts related to Griese likely becoming a free agent. He said he believes they'd like to talk about keeping him, but if they are going to the compensation levels previously negotiated would have to be along the same lines. If not, there is not any sense in talking. Griese signed a five-year, $32 million deal last year and the deal called for a $4 million signing bonus. Cindrich said he has no plans to attempt to rework Griese's deal at the upcoming NFL Combine. If released, the team would save about $4.55 million against the cap.
Buccaneers | Griese injury update Fri, 17 Feb 2006 15:55:54 -0800 Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese (knee) appears close to 100 percent healthy after suffering torn ligaments during the 2005 season. His agent, Ralph Cindrich, said if he isn't 100 percent he's pretty darn close to it.
not the biggest fan of his, but he might be worth a look...wouldn't it be funny to see the dolphins re-sign him?
It must be that point of the cycle. Not too long ago we were all about drafting a QB. Then it went to the Schaub, Volek, Kitna type talk. Then back to the draft and now we are on the Rivers, Culpepper, Greise, Brees portion. There seem to be a lot of options but look at those teams that these guys are coming from. They don't want them for one reason or another. I don't either. None of these guys are our SOLLUTION are they? They are the band-aids that Mangini said he doesn't want. Unless we are talking about cutting Chad and getting one of these guys to back up our drafted QB(maybe start next year for a bit but then give way to the new guy) I don't want them.
I actually am a Griese fan, and I hope we'd go after him if possible good veteran QB, doesn't really make mistakes at all..good for me
Can we stop with the bumping old threads gimmick? It's gotten pretty old, quickly. The only thing worse than bumping an old thread is bumping an old Kelly thread that was complete shit to begin with.
I was on board for making an offer to Jay Cutler if we could have him for reasonably, which he couldn't be had for. Let our current crop of quarterbacks fight it out and hopefully we find our qb of the future in this competition. If not look to the '10 class of qb's. Enough with the speculation of picking up a qb via garbage picking other teams cast offs.
If we are going to be a run heavy, defense oriented team, not unlike the 2000 Ravens...There is nothing wrong with a solid vet and "game manager" like Griese to bring into camp for cheap, and have him push the young QB's, ala Trent Dilfer.
