No offense but I'm just reading your posts about we need to draft D Brick that there are no good quality lineman in the draft other than D Brick. Can you name the last good lineman to be drafted in the top 5? You'd have to go all the way back to Orlando Pace in what 1997? Ogden around the same time but Ogden was 8 or 9 I believe. Do the names Robert Gallery, Chris Sameuls and Mike Williams ring a bell? They were all can't miss, all-world tackles that were drafted in the top 5 and they all are terrible. Just because Mel Kiper tells you D brick is a can't miss player it doesn't mean it's true. He's the same guy that called DeWayne the next Warren Sapp.

I'm assuming you don't know much about the draft because if you did you'd know that Ryan Cooledge, Ryan O'Callaghan, and Andrew Whitworth are all starting tackles that can be had in the 3rd round. There are a whole host of other guys that will be on the board when we pick in the 2nd round as well. Don't fall into the Kiper trap, do your own homework and then tell us why we shouldn't take Vernon Davis.

The reason we should take Davis is simple. We don't have any player on the offense that can make plays. Great we take D Brick and who catches the ball? J mac? Cotchery? A 34 year old Martin? Jolley? Having a guy like Davis on the team means guys like Coles and Pennington will benefit because Davis is a playmaker, he's going to open up hte offense and by opening up you give your QB time to throw the ball.

Starting tackles can be addressed in the 2nd or 3rd rounds as this is the best draft for lineman I can remember. When this team made it's SB run in 98 did we have one starting OL that was drafted in the 1st round? How many 1st round lineman did the Pats have when they won their 3 SB's? YOu need guys that can make plays for you and that makes the game easier for the lineman.

Good reply Rich!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. We need playmakers and Davis would be the man.

You guys do know that he may just be doing this to try and raise his stock? He wants other teams to try to trade up and get him or reach for him a little bit. I doubt we take him at 4.

Thanks WW85 and I knw I'm not alone in saying that I'd be happy if we got Davis or Hawk as I see them as the 2 biggest impact players in the draft. They can come in right away and be stars on our team.

Everyone called the Robertson the next Sapp thats why his hype was where it was. Someone pointed out on here yesterday that Gallery is moving to LT next year. He has been developing and is ready to move over to the left side.

Either way just because the last few LT's havent become what they were projected to be does not mean that Brick willl bust

Hawk or Davis is the way to go...if Mario is gone, which is likely if no trades are involved.

i tihnk it would be very nice if we were set on vernon davis, we should trade down a few picks and try to get him there. When people were talking about the top picks this year a month or two ago, vernon wasnt even mentioned. He was set to go as a mid first rounder. I tihnk we could get him at 7 and i also think the raiders would be interested in trading up for one of the big 3 qbs.

So we're gonna get a guard, center and a tackle all with the first pick at #4, which is why, I'm assuming, you don't think we should take Davis? If we could get three players with one pick, I'd agree with you, but last I checked, they only give us one. So if we can get a freakish playmaker and then pick up guards (remember Randy Thomas, a second rounder? What about current starter Moore, undrafted? Remember Kerry Jenkins, wasn't he like a 4th rounder?), centers (Mawae was a 2nd rounder) and tackles (Kareem McKenzie, 3rd rounder, Fabini, 4th rounder) with the other 6 picks we have in the first four rounds...

If we are taking him it's only going to be after trading down to at least 6.

Well, Boss, guess I don't know as much about the draft as you do. You'll have to excuse me for working 40 hours a week, taking care of an elderly invalid father and a 17 year old son, plus a house and all the while trying to find time to spend with my wife.
Who catches the ball? How about Chris Baker, how about Coles? Why not give Cotchery a chance? And, supposedly, JMac was hurt last year. Maybe thats a fact and he'll play well this year.

Vernon would be a very exciting pick. Like someone said in another thread...this guy IS NOT just a TE. He can be split wide and play some WR, play Hback and of course play TE.

He would finally give us a player that can score on any given play...

I am warming up to V.Davis at 4 very much so...

Can't flippin wait til the draft

Vernon Davis THINKS this, because of the Jets' widely publicized, highly intensive interview process. Every player the Jets have interviewed said they were grilled, they were asked way more in depth questions, blah blah blah.

Anyway, doesnt mean it wont happen, I think its a possibility... but I dont think theres much to read into this.

Yeah I agree. I don't know if anyone remembers, but everyone thought that Kellen Winslow was guaranteed to go to the Redskins. Apparently Kellen Winslow himself, thought he would be a Redskin...

Alright, you get your freak. We'll see how good he is with no offensive line.

Couldn't have said it better, Rich

He'll probably be gone at 7, the niners would take him. Unless we could convince the niners to move up 2 picks to get someone ahead of the Pack(maybe Hawk...?), I say we stay put and just draft Davis there if that's the case.

And as far as him being set as a "mid-rounder", I'm guessing you mean mid first rounder, since this guy has been rated at first round talent for a while now. After the college season, he was probably within top 15, but his excellent offseason brought him up to top-6 or 7 draft status.

yea, i heard the niners want him but i just dont get it, eric johnson is the most talented player on that team. The last tihng they need is a TE, actually, the only thing they dont need is a TE

and yea, sorry, i did mean mid first rounder.

Ny2.......I sense slight anger with some of your replys...............I don't believe anyone here has a problem with you and your opinions, even though some of us may disagree. I respect your ideas and thoughts and don't agree with some of them.

My opinion is mine, and I feel very strongly about my opinion.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about, if you think that we need guards and centers, we wouldn't be picking them with our fourth overall anyway, unless you think that we should trade down?
