A few items, Jets related. Matt Leinart has reportedly lined up more than two dozen hotel rooms at a Las Vegas Strip property in early May for his belated NFL draft party. -- Las Vegas Review Journal Titans GM Floyd Reese said ideally, taking a quarterback that already fits the system in place would be best. In this case, that would seem to be Matt Leinart, who played for Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow at Southern Cal. -- Nashville City Paper If Matt Leinart or Vince Young lasts until No. 4, the Jets could trade places with the quarterback-needy Raiders (No. 7), acquire an extra second- or third-round pick in the process and still get a blue-chip talent such as tight end Vernon Davis, linebacker A.J. Hawk or even D'Brickashaw Ferguson. -- New York Daily News Although no one in the organization will admit it publicly, Texans owner Bob McNair prefers the top pick to be signed by the time commissioner Paul Tagliabue announces the Texans' selection at 11 a.m. on April 29. -- Houston Chronicle Size has become the lingering issue that has scouts waffling about using a high NFL draft pick on former Gophers All-America center Greg Eslinger. At 6-3 and 293 pounds, Eslinger is considered undersized by NFL personnel. -- Minneapolis Star Tribune
If that's true about Leinart's post-draft Vegas blowout, then it is yet another bit of evidence in the Tangini file of why not to draft him....these guys don't like glitz!
As long as Mario Williams is gone at that point, I would have no problem trading down to 7. It would be nice to secure Brick, but I would risk losing him if it meant getting a second rounder. Hawk or Davis would be a nice consolation.
I totally agree!! IMO, Tangini is throwing out the red-flag on Matt. Leinart is too concerned about the peripheral stuff.........parties, glamour, image, drinking etc. All that stuff is great, but it effects Leinart's image in a negative way.....What's more important to him???....Football or Partying. Tangini want's serious football players who put Football #1......Leinart hasn't been exactly helping his image.
that's not entirely true. they want players who behave professionally, but one can be professional and glitzy. see Chad Johnson. it's when the glitz supercedes professionalism that it is a problem. see Terrel Owens. which category Leinart belongs remains to be seen in the NFL.
I would think we could get more than a 2nd or 3rd if we dropped down 3 spaces. I don't even care who the Jets draft, let's just get it over with, there has been a ton of speculation this year because no one knows who anyone else is going to take.
This is the most interesting not just for the Texans but for all of us. By signing the first pick by Saturday, that helps keep the Texans within budget for the 1st pick of last year's draft, but if they wait and the New Bargaining Agreement kicks in, then all teams are gonna need some Vaseline, because the screwing will begin.hmy:
Mangini wants to win first and foremost.. I'm sure he could live with a Qb who only knows how to win football games.. Judging by Big Ben's pre Sb partying there is evidence to suggest than what you do mid week doesn't affect your performance on Sundays. His Hollywood image is just another example of the media blowing something out of preportion the closer you get to the draft. Teams are gonna live to regret passing on him, I sure hope the Jets aren't one of them.
What exactly does this mean? Just curious, what you are alluding to; what changes are going into affect. What difference does it make if Bush signs Friday or Monday.
Oh really? Do you know Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini personally? Have you talked the draft over with them and what kinds of players they like? All im saying is that people keep alluding to "Tangini" and how they only like Defense or lineman or "non-glitzy" players; when in reality, they've been on the job a couple of months and this is their first draft, how the hell do we know what kinds of players they like?
I totally agree. So many people are quick to bash Leinart's "glamour" ,"Hollywood" image as evidence that winning football games isn't #1 to him. At,USC,that's all he did was win. Also, what QB cherished the spotlight and being a celebrity more than Broadway Joe? Anyone have a problem with him?Of course not. At least give Leinart a chance before you start drawing conclusions from every stupid tabloid article.
exactly, besides Tom Brady isn't some boring hick either - he enjoys the spotlight a lot too. Belicheck doesnt seem to mind, and neither did Mangini.
a 22 year old about to become a rich man throwing down a Vegas party. When I was his age I would've done it if I could've afforded it. Instead I had my my friends over to drink cheap beer on my back porch. Not that big of a deal.
-Because everything they've said since day one, the days they both were hired/promoted, has been about getting tough, smart guys that love football foremost -Because the guys they've brought in so far have fit that description (Chatham, Kassel, Dwight, Teague, etc, etc) -Because, according to one source in a daily article from the NY papers, "Tangini" (I realize it's not one person) were unimpressed with a couple of players in interviews because they did not appear prepared or focused enough -Because when they did work Leinart out, they asked Reggie Bush to catch some passes so they could see what he could do -Because the owner, who is not happy about paying out large sums of money for players that don't pan out (see Pennington and his refusal to give big money to Abraham) has NOT personally visited the guy he would be paying big time (Leinart) but did visit someone else (Cutler) -Because every major NFL journalist/insider seems to think the Jets will go in a different direction than QB....
JF......I agree....well put. Leinart is just giving the impresssion, ever so slight, he's a party guy, it can raise some comcerns.
