Looks as if FA signing for the Jets are over. Next phase is the draft. I'm ready to battle over who everyone think is the best pick. Bored. So I'm starting with Bay. Size speed combo is the best. I Like the current WR on the team. But we need some size. I reserve the right to change my mind just incase i'm wrong.
So if you were the Jets, what would you do? Trade up? Get Sanchez? Trade down? Get more picks and get Bey? How would you address the QB situation? Do we try and grab a late 1st rounder like we did last year? You leave a bunch of questions.
I'm going with Percy Harvin with our pick. I know he may not be a 6'4 + WR like a lot of Jet fans want (I still cant find a Moss type of WR in this years draft though) but if we are looking for a real playmaker as a WR...This is the guy to go with. Percy Harvin is QUICK, FAST, ILLUSIVE and he's honestly a threat to pick up a 20+ yard gain everytime he catches the ball. He's also really strong for a WR his stature, benched 225 like 21 times I believe. I guess I'm in love with his overall talent, ability and potential because I've seen just about every game over the past three years...I always root against the Gators but at the same time, Percy Harvin always seems to make me say..."Wow" We ALL love my boy Leon from FSU and believe me, as a WR...We would all be in love with Harvin after his rookie season. Now...If Sanchez is still on the board, it's a toss up...As a fan, I may just lean towards Sanchez because nothing is as "Sexy" as a top QB-Prospect.
I'm hoping to keep #17 and draft either Sanchez or Freeman. I think drafting a QB is really the way we should go right now. I think Clemens is a decent enough QB to start for us, but, I've been convinced that he isn't the answer we are looking for. Trading up from #53 to a late 1st rounder would be my next course of action to snag a WR, most likely Britt.
I know this wouldnt happen and may not even be a good idea, but what if...We drafted Harvin and Britt with our 1st two picks? lol, we would be set @ WR for years to come with Cotchery, Britt, Harvin and Stucky.
I left it open to a bunch of questions on purpose. So many things can be done. Most everyone feel a certain way on which direction the Jets will go or should go. Which direction do YOU favor?
Well as I said, I think we should draft the best available QB at 17, do what it takes to trade up into a late 1st rounder and snag a WR. I'd love to draft PK Josh Buchanon. Maybe in the 6th.
I thought this was a "draft is one month away let's make some noise" thread when I read the title.... but oh well, I'd like Sanchez or Moreno - they seem likely to have long careers in the NFL.
I'm glad none of you are our GM. Out of those, the only draft I'd be happy with is 1290's. Still, I'm convinced at least one of our first 2 picks will go to the defense. I'm hoping for a chance at Jarron Gilbert, and am slowly coming around to him at #17. I'd also take Vontae Davis, Maclin, or Moreno at the spot. No chance do I want Harvin or Bey. Of course, I'm also glad I'm not our GM, because we never seem to be happy
Ok, this is exactally what I would do if all the cards fell into place. Round 1 Pick #17 - Mark Sanchez QB I have a feeling that he is going to fall right down the board like Brady Quinn did a few years ago. I also could see Freeman being picked BEFORE Sanchez in this draft. I think this is going to be a very wild draft. Trade up in the draft next. I would trade our 2nd round pick, (#53) our 3rd round pick (#76) and our 4th round pick #115 to the FALCONS for their 1st round pick (#24) With the newly aquired pick at #24, we pick Kenny Britt, WR In the 6th round we have #193 overall, we should pick Josh Buchanon, PK We also have #228 in the 7th round. I say we get a FS. I don't know who is going to be there however. Feel free to pick apart my dream draft all you want.
Ok. Ugh. That would make a run for worst Jets draft ever, and that's saying something. Kenny Britt is NOT worth 3 picks. We have too many needs/depth issues, and our offensive situation is not dire enough to mortgage our future. We won't be taking a QB in round one, and we sure as hell wouldn't trade up afterwards to grab another offensive player. Also, we're not giving equal value in the trade, despite the 3 picks.
You didnt just trade our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks for Kenny Britt did you? wow... No way bro, no way.
Ok, since you guys disagree, what would you do? I don't see us moving up this year without really matching trade values. Would you do it for a 3rd and 4th?
Personally, I'd stay put in the second and grab Brian Robiskie from OSU. He's got a bit less speed than Britt, but he's got much better hands and body control and was a team leader on OSU. Robiskie might have the best set of hands in the draft. They're the same height too. He's probably the safest pick at WR in the draft. The only reason why he's not currently rated within the first round is because OSU went with Terrelle Pryor as their QB, who's more prone to running with the ball than throwing it. Robiskie was still their leading receiver despite this. There's more videos on Youtube of him, but this catch in particular shows a lot of concentration and his great hands. I understand the value trade off. The points come close enough to make the trade. But to sell 3 picks for Britt doesn't carry equal weight. the jets need these picks this year for depth, and to trade three of them for a prospect who isn't a no-brainer is dangerous.
Ha. Equal value for Atlanta's 1st rounder would be this year's 2, 3, 5 and next year's 2. If your initial trade wouldn't get it done, why would a 3rd and 4th? What would I do? I'd make sure that between my first 4 picks, I came away with the best players available from these positions: DE, RB, WR, CB, ILB, and OG in the 3rd or 4th. Example: 17 - Jeremy Maclin WR 53 - Jarron Gilbert DE (although, with the way he's rising, he could be our 1st rounder) 76 - Herman Johnson OG 115 - Javon Ringer RB I think that's a bit offense-heavy for our FO, but it could happen and I'd be happy.
honestly, i have no idea what to do with #17, but we should do everything in our power to grab Ron Brace (DT) with our 2nd pick, if we need to trade up in the second, so be it. I know there are alot of new factors this year with the D, but we all saw what happens when jenkins is hurt/tired. Brace can provide excellent depth at NT and step in as starter when and if he's needed. (Trying to be insightful and unbiased here) Brace may have benefited from playing next to Raji this year, but don't forget that last year Raji was out for the year and Brace played tremendously as the main DT on the line. I think he'll be a very very solid pro, if not a star. Plus if Rex is feeling frisky, Jenkins and Brace lining up next to each other would be a menacing sight for offensive lines
And as for my posts relating to the thread at hand, here are my preferences, in no particular order. I'll start with the O first: Mark Sanchez QB USC- I doubt he'll fall to 17, and the FO probably has a better handle on what we have in Clemens and Ratliff, but I feel that Sanchez will be a player in this league. He's got essentially everything you need in a franchise QB except for experience. Jeremy Maclin WR Mizzou- It's looking more and more like he'll be there at 17 because he didn't blow people away as expected at his Pro Day and the combine, but he's still one of the most dynamic receivers in the draft. He's raw, no doubt, and will need to be coached to work on this route running, but he's got good hands, a good head on this shoulders, and all the athletic ability to be a #1 in the league. Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia- IMO the best all-around RB in the draft and the most sure thing to be a star in this league. He truly has no real flaws in his game besides a lack of breakaway speed, but he's got some of the best instincts I've seen from a runner coming out of college. With the Jones situation potentially becoming a problem in the future, that makes this pick make even more sense. Also, he grew up a Jets fan and has said on more than one occasion that he wants to be a Jet; who doesn't love that? Hakeem Nicks WR UNC- Yeah, his Pro Day and Combine sucked and yes, he scored worse than a jar of mayonnaise on the Wonderlic, but he's still one of my favorite WR prospects on the field due to his play in college. Definitely the toughest reciever in the draft and plays like a RB after the catch. I see Anquan Boldin 2.0 if he can keep his head on straight. That being said, he's further down on my list now because his poor showings the past month make me question his work ethic. Now for defense.... Jarron Gilbert DE SJSU - Probably the most likely to make the Demarcus Ware-like jump into the first round from a smaller school. Played like a man among boys at SJSU and has the most potential of any 3-4 DE in the draft. He can do it all, unlike Tyson Jackson who's primarily a run stopper. Don't be surprised if he goes to SD a pick before us, either. Evander Hood DT/DE Mizzou - A team leader who leaves everything on the field. Is a bit of a jack-of-all trades whose combination of speed and strength really help his cause. There's not really much to not like about him, other than that the ceiling for his potential may be a bit lower than others because his frame is probably close to being maxed out. Sean Smith S/CB Utah - Has prototypical size, very good speed and was a damn good player at Utah. While I really like the addition of Jim Leonhard, I have a hard time seeing him starting full time this year. In addition, with the possibility of losing Sheppard next year (he'll hit FA next year due to his contract), Smith can also be shifted over to CB the following season. I honestly have an even wider range of guys who I'd be happy with at #17 and there's only really a select few who I wouldn't take who are currently being talked about (mainly the WR's not currently on the list above). Tyson Jackson's also on my do-not-draft-at-17 list because he's just not worth a first rounder with what he brings to the table. We also already have a good DE against the run in Coleman - we need a guy who can get that initial push on the opposing OL.
