We should look into acquiring Tony Gonzalez

All the talk about possibly drafting a TE in the 1st... I figured it would probably be way cheaper to get Tony G for a couple of years. The guy can still play, still h as great hands, and has always been a good blocker... seems like a good fit to me.

Here are his stats in the last two seasons on a garbage team, just in case someone wants to say that he is over the hill:

    2007 Kansas City 16 99 1172 5 TD
    2008 Kansas City 16 96 1058 10 TD

If he gives us even 3/4s of this production it would be well worth it.

Wow, awesome response. Do you want to intelligently debate this topic or is this the best you can muster?

Is there a salary cap in Madden '09?

What insane contract do you have in mind... I think he can be had for relatively cheap given his age and the Chiefs desperate need to get younger.

Although i do not usually agree with SFJ most of the time, this is not a bad idea, he'd bring leadership and def be able to help keller develope. I do not want to see us draft a te in the first round. Not sure what gonzalezes cap number is but if we are in the good 14mil i do not see what the problem would be.

What insane contract does he have in mind? Do you think Tony Gonzales thinks he deserves a pay cut?

I know they were thinking of shopping him last year, but with new management i'm not sure they will be shopping him this year.

Well I don't know what his contract is, but do you? I mean you are suggesting that his current contract would be unacceptable for our salary cap. What is his current contract?

I've seen some stuff about him either wanting a trade, then others saying he never said that... management never really saying one thing or another for sure... everything I've read indicates that he can be had for the right price and I seriously doubt it would take more than a 2nd tops.

Not off the top of my head, but look at it this way: He's a first ballot HOF'er.

His contract numbers are: $4 million this year, $4.5 million next year, $5.75 million 2011.

He'd be cheaper for us than the Chiefs because we don't have to count the prorated portion of his signing bonus. $4 million really isn't that bad for Gonzalez, even at this point in his career.

BTW, his signing bonus counts $2.5 million against the cap each year for the Chiefs. At those numbers, they wouldn't be saving nearly enough in a trade this year to find a halfway decent replacement, and they draft too high to entertain Pettigrew.

I see, so financially speaking its fine for us, but perhaps not so fine for the Chiefs... I wouldn't want to give up our 1st for Tony since the whole point is to get him so we don't have to use our 1st on a TE.

So what.. others first ballot HOFs have been traded, doesn't mean they make tons of cash in their twilight years, as just confirmed by IgnatiusJReilly in the post above.

Everyone worries about the cap, and honestly I don't know why. The ability to manipulate the cap by restructuring contracts gives teams lots of flexibility.

We need a blocking TE, not a receiver.

Tony G is both in one. Why limit the offense? D. Keller can play in the slot if Tony is on the field. Tony can teach Keller as well.

How are these two similar in any shape or form?
