On a separate note, I love how Ratty used the " I can control only what I can control" cliche that Eisen advised Rex to use with the NY media.
I'm pretty sure it was never for his performance but rather because he was injured a number of times. I never watched him play in college though.
lol, I got a good laugh outta that one bro. Dont worry TBJ, youve been here since when? 05? You wont be replaced around here, still cracking up:breakdance: And Jetfan1290? How can you say something like... "Regarless of the O-Line"? How? In my eyes...The O-Line is the most important part of the offense because games are won in the trenches. How can you have a W.Montgomery starting @ LG and an A.Clement starting @ RT and expect to make it deep into the playoffs? How? Put those two practice squad players on the same O-Line as two 2nd year players and that spells a disaster waiting to happen. I could care less if it's Brady or Manning...Those guys have always had some of the best O-Lines around and if you were to start one of those guys on the Jets team of 07...They would fall flat on their face without a running game or time to make reads in the pocket. Faneca=Future HOF LG... Could have another 5 years left in the tank. Woody- Proven veteran @ RT, started on a SB winning team. Moore- Under the radar type of RG but you know what? He was the starting RG when Curtis Martin rushed for the most yards and once again...Was our starting RG for the AFC's leading rusher in Thomas Jones last year. I love the guy. Mangold...Will be what? A 4th year starter this year? One of the best young Centers in the game today and I really hope we get him locked up long term. Ferguson,...Say what you want about this kid, but he's really turning into the Franchise LT we drafted him to be and he's also been the starter since the day we drafted him and Im confident in Fergusons ability to protect the QB's blind side. Put Kellen behind THAT O-Line with our rushing attack and a Rex Ryan defense and watch what happens.
If given the chance, Brett Ratliff will be this years Matt Cassell. If given the chance, Kellen will still be a Jets version of Rob Johnson.
Matt Cassel is awful. Horrible comparison. Seriously, horrible. I like preseason games too, no worries.
Nothing against Ratliff, he's a Jet and I'll root for the guy with everything I have on Sundays but it's just funny to me...The guy has a solid preseason and he's the next Joe Montana in the eyes of many around here? Get real.
They were both Free Agents, not Practice Squad players. He's 32. the norm is about 34 before they completely break down from playing at a very high level. He is only here until he is 36. Do you want to extend a 36 year old LG when the time comes?
They were both free agents that should never have been allowed off the practice field. Where are they now? Exactly. Faneca is 32... He's only here until he's 36...Perfect, thats another 4 years...Excuse me...I said 5 years, lol.
But Kellen played against the same exact competition and had much worse outings, and he's had 3 year's in the system. Do we use the 07 regular season against starters, or do we go with the 3rd stringers who should have been a cake walk considering his 8 starts the year before?
That question doesn't even make sense. And when you say he had a much worse outing, do you mean in preseason? Ignoring for a minute how little credence can be put in preseason success, Clemens actually had a decent preseason this past year that would have been a lot better if not for a uncharacteristic number of mistakes made by his teammates. He also had a great preseason the year before.
I've said this a dozen times before, if Alex Smith wasn't such a flop Brett Ratliff would have been a mid round pick at worst coming out of the Utah's spread offense. As much as I like Cutler if that trade went through the first thing to go through my head would be 'what if Ratliff is better?'
i was trying to dig deeper into TBJFs opinion. Since we are talking numbers and pocket presence in last year's preseason alone, which is all we have to go on when we compare Ratliffs experience to Clemens - Ratliff had the better preseason. And then the next question is - do we go on the most current tape and disregard 07 since it was such a fluke when evaluating Clemens? I'm asking questions here because I'm at the point where I have no faith in any of the QBs until August when I can make my own decision about it, even though I'm a fan and when it comes right down to it - my opinion doesn't matter.
I wouldn't say it's a fluke.. I think what happened in 2007 is exactly what will happen when you throw a QB into the execution chamber that lay behind that offensive line. I've been saying this for the past year and a half - what Clemens was able to with that crappy offense really impressed me. It doesn't really matter how crazy it sounds. He won games and put the team in a position to win games. Compare that to what Pennington was able to do. Clemens was a JMAC drop away from pulling off a .500, while Pennington put up a single win in his 8 starts. You can dig up all the QB stats all you want, but Clemens looked 100x better than Pennington out there and I think there were times when he looked like the franchise QB we all want. Sure I've got my doubts, and I think Ratliff has shown a lot of potential, but if I were a betting man I'd say Clemens is the best bet.
