No poll just your opinion. Do you want a "safe pick" at 4. Someone like D'Brick or Hawk who will be there 10 yrs holding that spot. On the other hand would you go for Vince Young who may be the most physically talented QB in the draft (or the dumbest  )The more I've gone over things with the front office rookie status they'll go D'Brick at 4 and won't look back. It's safe and won't bite them in the ass unlike a Lienart or Young who may be great or busts. Come 07' maybe they'll make the big move to Quinn or some other "hot" prospect but in 06' they'll play it safe.
I think the best way to go would be - Mario Williams AJ Hawk D'Brick They all have a good chance of being great players but they could suck as well so I have no idea. About the only thing I know is I am sick of waiting for this freaking draft to get here.
IMHO you take the most talented player at 4. If it is Vince Young, I hope we take him. Hopefully we aren't in the same position as last year and aren't close to 4 again. We have another first round pick, we can make the safe choice there.
Well said...The only thing that I disagree with is that you don't have Vernon Davis on your list...In my eyes, he is a very safe pick and will change the offense for the better right away...He's the best WR in the draft and he plays TE...can play him single TE formation, double TE formation, split him outside, in the slot, or in the backfield...He can be used just like Reggie Bush will be used in Houston...How can you pass on that??? I honestly don't understand why people aren't talking about Davis more...He's strong like a bull & he's faster than Antonio Gates...You can't get any better and safer with Davis in my eyes...
Reggie Bush Mario Williams Matt Leinart D'Brickashaw Ferguson That is if we want to go the safe route... I am a big fan of us adding a beast pass protecting LT...Thats one OL position we won't have to worry about for a long time. Then you have... LT- D'Brickashaw Ferguson LG- Pete Kendall C- Trey Teague RG- Brandon Moore RT- Whoever wins the job in camp... Thats not a bad oline at all though. Certainly good enough to play at a much higher level then last years group.
Donovan McNabb's scouting report from the year he was drafted. Young is bigger, faster, a more accurate passer and is a National Championship winner under the most intense pressure any college QB has ever faced. Like McNabb, questions are about the style of football he played in college, always in the shotgun. McNabb was considered an option type QB and there were many questions about his ability to adapt to a pro style offense. Leinart or Young would be the pick. The 'safe' pick is the frightened pick. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/1999/nfldraft/players/17114.html
With a new regime the "safe pick" isn't a bad option. What was the statistic like 40 percent of the qb's in the first round are busts. With O line it is much lower. D'Brick would be our franchise left tackle and thats fine with me.
Trade down! Over 50% of the first round picks over the years have been dudds. Get more picks and stay under the cap.
The Jets need a good foundation for the future. Now is not the time to gamble. Use this year and these 9 picks to add a lot of talented young players (not necessarily gamebreakers) to the depth chart. Then next year you can gamble. This year though Brick, Mario, or Hawk. (In that order IMO).
mario williams vince young vernon davis or aj hawk(in that order) NO DBRICK-this drafts deepest position is o-line and we have 9 piks in this draft we dont need to use our 1st pik on an o-linemen. if our FO does their hw they can find just as good as of a player in a later round.
I want Young. Period. All I've been hearing is that he will take longer to develope as an NFL QB. Also, lately all the anyalists are saying that although he is a project, he has the most up side. If this happens to be true then why don't we want him? Are we expecting(not hoping) to make a run next year? How about the next year? Maybe. Hopefully. Vince has time to learn here too. I want to win now too but realistically we shouldn't be in too much of a hurry.
How many new regimes will be willing to take on projects? Think about today's "win now" attitude. If I'm Mangini and Tannenbaum, I don't take chances on guys like Young, at least with our #4. They might be gone before he develops.
I agree with Spaulding. Yeah he's going to take bit to learn the offense, but he has such a ridiculous upside, and he's a playmaker. He can take over a game. Between Penny, Brooks, and Ramsey we could probably be able to hold our own next season until Young is ready. Even with all the negative publicity Young has been receiving, if we pass on him were going to regret it for his entire career. idk thats just my take on it.
If Mangini was some Pete Carroll type coach I'd agree with you and the Captain. The fact is Mangni and Mr. T come from the old school of a system QB which Vince certainly isn't. The Jets are going to play this draft by the numbers or like my favorite ice cream Vanilla.
