Eron Riley/WR/Duke: Riley, considered by most as a possession receiver, shocked scouts with his speed. He measured 6-3, 206 then blistered in the 40, clocking times which ranged between 4.30 and 4.36 . He posted a vertical jump of 40 inches and broad jump of 11-2. Riley then displayed the consistent hands he was known for at Duke during the position drills. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/03/20/riser.sliders/index.html
Based on just the info there Id say a 6th or 7th round pick. Small time school dont know how much competition he went up against.
The ACC is decent competition, Duke has been the Doormat for years.......Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Miami FL, Maryland, North Carolina.........they play good teams each year.
I meant the corners he faced off against but yea he prob at least faced some good corners vs. those teams. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=68155&draftyear=2009&genpos=WR
hey Ben Patrick is doing well as a backup TE for the Cardinals and made a big TD catch in the playoffs. I wanted him in the late rounds back in 06.
Kevin Barnes, Macho Harris, Alphonso Smith....to name a few. ACC has been known to produce some good CBs. I wouldn't get too worked up........Riley is a JAG, with average results, nothing to write home about. FA signing after the draft.
What do you guys think about this Ramses Barden kid at either 4th or 5th round? He seems like a load at 228 lbs with 6'6" height. Of course, he is not a rocket, but then who cares? He will bulldoze over midgets at will.
I was very surprised when he fell to the 7th round though. Oh, by the way, he went to Delaware not Duke...
Exactly....He was a Blue Hen. I thought Patrick would be a 3rd Round pick, I was hoping the Jets would get him in Day 2.
Yeah, I'd love to draft Barden! 4.51 for a monster like that is pretty quick, if you ask me. I don't think he's playing on opening day, but what a solid project to work on.
I think the Giants might draft Barden in 2nd. Unless they get Britt or Maclin in 1st. They got hardly any needs so can draft higher then expected.
Well. I am still not sold on Barden being day 1 pick - so if Giants are that hell-bent on drafting a "project" with 2nd rounder, that's their problem. I still don't think Kevin Gilbride would draft a tall WR that really cannot stretch the field due to the lack of elite speed. I'd think he'd be more interested in someone with a mold of DHB (tall, fast and instant contributor to the offense)
Yeah - I think Marcus Henry and Ramses Barden are two spectacular projects to work with. Neither have the "burner" speed, but both can be physical - Barden is known to take over the game in crunch situation. Makes me think of Fitz/Q combo - neither possesses elite speed, but they more than make up for that with physical prowess. Of course I'm not banking on them becoming that level of WRs, but if either of them pans out (well, Barden can be #1 someday with his strong physical merits) then Jets are set for years at WR with Cotchery, Clowney and Stuckey all licking their chops.
I swore he went to Duke... oh well, I'm retarded. EDIT: I was right!!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Patrick GO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I go to Duke and watched every game this year, Riley is NOT I repeat is NOT an NFL wide receiver. He was great in the first three games of the year, then he forgot how to catch or run routes... He is nowhere near 4.4 game speed and he is not quite physical enough either, he doesn't use his body/size that well either. No.
