That's a stupid question. Of course we're happy with Pennington. We wouldn't have made the playoffs in 2008 without him... So basically, you want the perfect QB who always manages to lead the big drive at the end of the game. Good luck finding one... We heard that last year too, right before we beat you / won the division title...
You know what your getting with Chad. He's not a good enough QB to perform even marginally well against the type of great defenses playoff teams are going to throw at him. Even in his finest year the Raiders completely bitched him and the jets around. Chad is a playoff qb no doubt about it, but unless a team is able to construct an elite defense and an equally good running game, you won't get out of the conference championship with Chad as your QB. That's all well and good if you know...you don't want a Super Bowl.
Oakland was his first year playing, or two years earlier in his career than Kellen Clemens right now. Most QBs, if not all, need a good team if they want to, you know, win the Super Bowl.
In the end it didn't really matter that Miami made the playoffs. The got owned by a real playoff team. So what if they made it, what did it get them? Pennington once again got owned by a top NFL defense. You can have the playoff ownage. Give me a QB that can attack a real defense please. I would have much preferred that we traded him, at least that way we would have gotten something in return.
Get back to me when Penny starts shredding a real defense because he never will. He's had a top defense, o-line and running game in the playoffs. It didn't prevent him from sucking against a top D. It's a pattern with him. Sure top D's slow down most QB's, but w/chad there's no chance. He simply cannot fit the ball into the tight spots speedy - top defenses require you to hit.
The one year he had any of that he was playing with a torn throwing shoulder and we still won a game on the road. That's life in the NFL sometimes.
Against an average defense and the torn shoulder didn't prevent him from throwing one legendary bomb. He's a good QB that will consistently put his team in position to beat average -> below average opponents. Obviously the Jets fit that description by week 17 last year.
