I found this article and it got me thinking about a trade similar that could bring Cutler here. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...jets_may_turn_to_eric_mangini_and_browns.html (for those who cant see it w w w .nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2009/03/18/2009-03-18_jets_may_turn_to_eric_mangini_and_browns.html) The article suggest that Quinn would be appealing to McDaniels because of his history with the Charlie Weis.Idk about that i think the Browns would much rather have Quinn as their future as they have already seen the best of Anderson. The trade i have goes like this: * Jets get QB Jay Cutler * Broncos get Jets 1st round pick (17th overall), QB Derek Anderson * Browns get Jets 3rd round pick (76th overall), OLB Bryan Thomas, conditional 2010 4th pick (from Jets) (depending on play of Jay Cutler) Now the trade in the article isn’t the same as the one I have above, but I think at the end of the day this one is the most realistic. The Jets get their franchise QB, for what is a reasonable price of a young pro-bowl caliber QB. A 2009 1st and 3rd round pick and a conditional 4th rounder which could possibly go up to a 2nd rounder and Bryan Thomas. The Broncos get rid of their disgruntled QB for a 1st and Derek Anderson a proven NFL QB. And the Browns trade away their probable backup and give the reigns to Brady Quinn and get a 3rd rounder and probable starter who is familiar with the defense, Bryan Thomas and another conditional pick in the future that could escalate to a 1st if the Jets make the Super Bowl pretty much the same deal last year with Favre. Its a long shot but the fo can get it done(Mangini should do his boy Tanny a favor), and it seems out of all the teams vying for Cutler's services we seem to be the most interested. The Lions have the best picks available but would the Broncos really want a rookie QB who they would have to shell out alot of money for, idk it seems the New York is the most likely landing point.
So for Jay Cutler the jets are giving up: 1st round pick 3rd round pick Bryan Thomas Possible 4th round pick That really seems like a lot to give for him... I don't know if this makes sense. Still seems like too much to give up for an above average QB.
There's basically no such thing as too much to give up for a top-flight QB, and a package of a first rounder, two mid-round picks, and a mehh 29-year old linebacker sure as hell isn't too much. Deal looks way too good from the Jets perspective. Doubt it would ever happen.
I think it would be a great deal if the Jets can get it done... Getting Cutler will get rid of the BIG question mark we have at QB right now and make us a great to elite team!
The only reason I didn't dismiss the idea so bluntly was that, well, it is the mighty Mankok running the show in Cleveland. You never know.
No but a chance to get Andersons contract out f the way and getting a conditional pick from us could peak their interest. Also the relationship between Mangini and Tanny could come in to play.
There was an article stating Anderson could be had for a second day pick. Why don't we just ship a 3rd to the Browns for Anderson, send him to the Broncos with #17 and Thomas. Remember, the Broncos are shifting to a 3-4 and would love to get an experienced player in position.
No way in hell the Broncos trade Cutler for a possibly shitty QB with a huge contract, a mid-first round pick, and an oldish, crappyish linebacker. I don't see Denver giving him up in a Browns/Jets scenario without getting Quinn and a first, and I don't see the Browns moving Quinn without getting at least a first. More likely, I don't see Cutler getting traded.
Here's one proposal I came up with. Jets get: -Jay Cutler -5th Round Pick Broncos get -1st Round pick, 17th overall. -David Harris -3rd round pick in next years draft or a conditional pick. Harris would give them a solid defender in a defense that needs all the help they can get.
That would never happen. Rex wants a hard nosed defense, and a ILB tandem of Scott/Harris has potential to be one of the best in the league. No way he would replace Harris with a backup.
If we are really gunna do this, then we need to give up the 17 and likely another mid round draft pick. as long as we dont give up any real good players i am all for this going down. jay has always been one of my favorites.
The Jets gotta roll the dice and make this deal. I really think Cutler has the potential to lead a team to the Super Bowl and at only 26 years theres tremndous upside. Look at the Giants they gave up a shitload to draft Eli Manning but they rolled the dice and it payed off with a Super Bowl title. The Jets gotta gamble here and give up some draft picks in hopes that this works out and we finally win one.
Sorry but that trade is ridiculous. That is WAY too much to give up for Cutler. Let's develop the players we actually have on our roster instead of always trading for other teams players. And, word is pretty strong that Mangini does not like Quinn and he is the more likely traded player.
Do you read, or just type like a crackhead. This is what I wrote: Why don't we just ship a 3rd to the Browns for Anderson, send him to the Broncos with #17 and Thomas. That whole #17 thing means our first rounder, but I guess they don't have numbers assigned to picks in Madden. Basically we would be paying 1st, 3rd and Thomas.
http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/03/19/could-jets-turn-to-mangini-to-help-land-cutler/ Jets fired Mangini, but they’ll need him to land Cutler Posted: Around The Web | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Denver Broncos, Eric Mangini, Jay Cutler, New York Jets Eric Mangini was fired as the New York Jets’ coach after a disappointing conclusion to the 2008 season, but he could become a key factor in what would be the team’s biggest acquisition since, well, Brett Favre. Close to one year after he welcomed Favre’s short stay in the Big Apple, Mangini could help facilitate a deal that would put disgruntled Denver Broncos QB Jay Cutler in green and white, Rich Cimini writes in Thursday’s New York Daily News. Cimini suggests that the Jets have two of the three pieces required to make a move for Cutler — the salary-cap room and the draft picks. But the third element, a tradeable quarterback, is something that might require the help of a third team. Enter Mangini and his new team, the Cleveland Browns, who Cimini notes has two starting quarterbacks. “The former Jets coach has two viable quarterbacks, Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, neither of whom has received an endorsement from Mangini. Quinn might be appealing to Broncos coach Josh McDaniels because he played at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis, who used to work with McDaniels in New England. Quinn is well-versed in the Weis/Patriots offensive system, which McDaniels will use in Denver. “That means the Browns could emerge as the third team in a potential three-way trade. The main components of a three-way deal would be the Jets getting Cutler, the Broncos getting Quinn and the Browns getting a premium draft pick (or picks) to help their rebuilding process. Without Mangini, the Jets would be hard-pressed to swing the deal.”
Maybe because they're getting 2 picks and a serviceable player for their backup QB. This trade is ridiculous. The Jets aren't giving up 3 picks and a player for Cutler. The ONLY team this trade makes sense for is the Browns.
