This is my first mock after the signings of Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard, the trade for Lito Sheppard, and the re-signing of Brandon Moore. 1) Hakeem Nicks, WR, UNC Gives our QB a very good WR to work with, he is strong and tough after the catch with amazing hands. 2) Jarron Gilbert, DE, SJSU Might not be here but should be; Gilbert has tremendous upside and has the strength and size to dominate at the 3-4 DE spot. 3) Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty Could be a 1st round lock had he not transferred from Pitt to get closer to home and his father. Big back with great speed, vision and good power with surprisingly good hands out of the backfield. Can do-it-all, but also compliments Leon well and can give TJ a rest when he needs it. 4) Terrance Knighton, NT, Temple A good NT prospect with a high-motor that can relieve Jenkins when he needs a rest. 5) Anthony Hill, TE, NC State A better version of Chris Baker - a very good blocker that can be used in the intermediate passing game and as a red zone target. Compliments Keller very well. 6) Victor Butler, OLB, Oregon State In 2007 he had 12.5 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 4 QB hurries, 2 FF, 4 PBUs and 1 INT. In 2008 he had 21.5 TFL, 12 sacks, 5 QB hurries, and 4 FFs. He is a terror off the edge and can be a pass rush specialist from Day 1. 7) Everette Pedescleaux, DE, Northern Iowa A top 3-4 DE prospect because of his size, strength and effort just happens to be available in the 7th round - so why not take him? Now we have a guy to groom behind Ellis so we can have bookend DEs for the next decade with Gilbert and Pedescleaux.
Nice Job overall, GM, and I would be ecstatic with those first three picks .. I would be doing back-flips
Nice overall mock...three things: 1. I'm still not high on Rashad Jennings - I definitely don't think he'd be a "first round lock" had he stayed at Pitt. That coaching staff was going to convert him to fullback. 2. I think even the 5th round is where Hill should go, but he may fall a little more - he's a very physical blocker and he's also a good receiver, but his past injuries might push him into the early-to-mid 6th. 3. I really like the Knighton pick -the 4th round may be a little too high for him, but getting the much needed NT depth is worth the reach. He's pretty athletic for a guy that's 320 pounds. 3 and a 1/2. C'mon, no Lee Robinson?
I'd do backflips if the Jets could pull off a draft like this. I love the Nicks and Knighton picks. However Gilbert will likely be gone by our second rounder.
With the way things are going, Gilbert may be gone by our first rounder. San Diego needs a 3-4 defensive end.
I don't see Jarron Gilbert being there. I think he's going to go much higher then people like Scott Wright think. Other posters like Jabba and MrElectric also see him as a potential first round pick, which would make perfect sense.. Not the biggest Rashad Jennings fan, but I'd certainly welcome him there. And Day 2 is just great. I'd prefer someone like Texas' Roy Miller at NT in the 4th, but either way, that's simply a terrific draft..
For whatever reason I forgot about him when I made this last night - unforgivable. Change the 6th round pick to Robinson - he offers better versatility and can play both ILB and OLB whereas Butler can only play OLB (even though he'd prob be a better OLB).
2 reasons 1 TJ is 31 he has maybe 2 years left, other reason is if we are going to be running as much as I/we think a 3rd back can relieve TJ and Leon if they get tired.
Because TJ'S is getting up there in mileage, and Leon will never be more than a 10 carry a game back. Plus, the style of play we assume Rex is going to implement involves a heavy dose of running the ball. With an injury to TJ or even Leon, we're all of the sudden very thin at a position which becomes extremely important in our new offense. Additionally, Jennings is good value in the 3rd round, and excellent value in the 4th. RJ is the type of prospect who only drops due to his competition level. He actually has very similar measurables to Beanie. As far as his speed concerns, he ran a 4.4 on our indoor track at Liberty. Yes it's a fast track, but running a 4.4 on any track means you can move.
To add to this Jones is asking for a new contract with 2 years left on his deal. When his current deal is done he would be 33 if you could get Moreno or Wells why not? Moreno or Wells with Leon forget about it we would run the ball down guys throats.
Not that I want a RB in the first round, but if we did I'd take Moreno. In fact, I'd rather Donald Brown and LeSean McCoy over Chris Wells. He has too many red flags IMO. There are some terrific sleeper prospects in the mid rounds (3-5 or so). To name a few: - Andre Brown - NC State - Rashad Jennings - Liberty - James Davis - Clemson - Kory Sheets - Purdue - Jeremiah Johnson - Oregon - Glenn Coffee - Alabama
I have not watched Wells alot so I cant comment on him I just see he is ranked high. I have watched Moreno alot he is a local so I watched alot of Bulldog games he is the man.
I would walk away from that draft happy. I just have a feeling the jets are going to do something stupid and draft Sanchez.
That would be a fantastic draft, I hope but can't see gilbert falling to our pick. I think he's late first, early second.
Love the 1st and 2nd rounders. 3rd round Id like Sammie Lee Hill small school gem DT/DE would be able to back up both Jenkins and our DE's. Then take Shonne Green from Iowa in 4th. We don't have a 5th, never heard of the the 6th round pick but he sounds good. 7th pick anything that is BPA.
