I wouldn't match any offer the Browns threw at him. He had a few big plays this past season but wasn't anything special. Theres better safetys then him in the draft.

I'm a little sad to see Poteat go, He was a good Nickle/Dime guy. Not sure that he's got the aggressiveness that Ryan's probably looking for out of the defense, might be why he wasn't re-signed by us?

Exactly. I'm not sure why people are so quick to kick him out the door at his current price tag, but if Mangini wants him badly enough to overpay, we'll let him walk.

PFT has "rumor" Elam signed for a 1-year / $1.5mm tender with CLE.

Jets have seve days to match...I am guessing they'll take all seven.

I would retain him and cut Smith. Cutting Smith saves u 500k so there

Elam I feel would be pretty good in Rex's system.

It is funny that Mangini is doing what Rex did to the Ravens to us, but with our second-rate players instead of solid starters.

Agreed totally. Elam could rush the passer from a couple of different spots in Ryan's defense, and I feel that the secondary is improved enough to cover his mistakes when he's on the field in coverage. Cut Brad Smith and we're basically offsetting the costs of matching Mangini's offer.

wow i really hope the Jets make an offer to Elam, i'd much rather him spelling Jim Leonard and Kerry Rhodes than Eric Smith, who sucks. I can see Elam becoming a SOLID player in the nfl.

Elam has got better every season , Ryan will only make him better. Already a tenacious tackler , with Ryans coaching could make him a pro-bowler.

    Too late!!

Was hoping to retain Elam and show Eric Smith to the door. I'll be interested to see how the Jets play this one over the course of the next week. In reality though, can't you find a "decent" safety on par with Elam in the mid-late rounds of any draft?
