but who going to be able to help us in FA or draft this year? Sure not a QB 's in the draft at least the one we may have a chance at getting. Everybody looks at what Matt, Joe did last but history tell u those odds are very weak of a QB coming out of the draft and playing like them.
actually yeah... The Jets have been fine the last forty years. aside from the freakness of the Dennis Byrd disaster, all has pretty much been fine with the Jets. Now if you are talking about great, then thats a different story. Your right then, we havent been great in 40 years. :smile:
Well Im going to be a little more optimistic Tom Brady's knees are still fragile The Dolphins secondary has not been addressed TO will implode the Bills No one Knows about how either Clemens or Ratliff will do, and we still have Cotchery, Keller, and Leon in FA the Jets signed someone named "the mad backer" and two solid DB's, both of which look to be promising Giants may have overpaid for a DE-their were other options available-Its going to be much better than the 2008 D- Our pass D will get better-higher than 27th place

Dear GOD man snap out of it! The team is far from complete. We still have the draft & the possibility of a trade. How can you say our we are going to have a terrible pass defense when we signed 2 players which are heads above the players they replaced? Even with Sheppards question marks he will still be better then the revolving door we had last season. Come on lighten up! We've not only got an improved team we've also got a coaching staff thats heads above last seasons, also. I really believe deals will be made during the draft either for picks or a player(s). The offense will be addressed in this manner. DO NOT PANIC!!!!
How about a solid eighty percent of your players being home grown and a large percentage of them being very good?
We're at about 60% of starters, though drafting for depth hasn't generally worked out. Not a million miles away though.
Jets need to get help at WR, DL and the secondary. If they do that, they'll be fine. If not? Then maybe the OP will be right.
Lots of things here to pick apart. The "Mickey Mouse" FO only obtains players. It's the CS that develops them. Did Mangini develop Miller? How about Clowney, a young WR that the rest of the CS wanted to get on the field last year, but Mangini blocked that move. What did Mangini do with Gholston last year? Nothing. He never played other than on ST's, but he was a bust. If he played and sucked, fine, but how do we even know if Gholston is a bust unless he plays, even as a pass rush specialist? After we lost Kendall, both D'Brick and Mangold's play declined. Once we got Faneca, their play improved. What does that say about how Mangini developed either of these high draft picks? Young players need a HC who can lead. Brick and Mangold had no leadership from Mangini, and only the addition of a vet like Faneca could fix that, because Mangini could not. Mangini is a weak leader of men. It struck me when he had his first few press conferences. When he spoke, his voice and demeanor was uncertain. I thought, OK, he's just nervous, a young first time HC, but he never did seem to develop into a guy that spoke with authority. Compare Mangini's first press conferences to Ryan's. It's like night and day. Mangini played favorites, and that will always undermine leadership. The whole teacher's pet thing does not fly outside of grammar school. Mangini it seemed to me, was actaully afraid of Favre. A weak leader coaching a future hall of fame QB, no small wonder. Players who came into their own did so despite Mangini, not because of him. Mangini is gone. Maybe now, we can develop players who struggle at first, like Gholston and Miller. This team has leadership now. Mangini also has to take blame for many draft pick busts. He valued smarts over talent. Schlegel, E Smith, Lowery, Elam, many of the draft picks he influenced never had the tools to play in this league. Throw the Ainge pick in that group too. A wasted pick. Even the Kellen Clemmens pick was pretty lousy in the second round, but Kellen was a smart QB, and not overly talented. Typical Mangini. I went to TC.... Mangini never spent extra time with Gholston. He just yelled an awful lot. Not every player responds to negativity as a challenge, some need positive reinforcment. Thankfully, the NE identical twin plan is over, and the Jets will have a new identity. Teams will find out soon enough. Play the Jets, and you are going to get your ass kicked, even if it isn't on the scoreboard. Play that kind of football, and the W-L record will take care of itself. Mangini is so insecure, the first thing he did was to take down a mural of the Brown's all time best players and coaches in Cleveland. He will never live up to their legacy, and he seems to know it. There is a new sherrif in town, and this won't be the Mangini Jets. This team has a leader now.
Here are some of our drafted players who played a major role in last years team: Leon Washington Brad Smitt Cotchery Coles Stuckey Keller Baker Rhodes Harris Lowery Revis Ellis Thomas Moore Here are some of the Pats players that contributed to them that they didn't develop: Wes Welker Randy Moss Jabar Gafney Lamount Jordan Sammy Morris Mike Vrabel Rodney Harrison Adalius Thomas If either Ratliff or Clemens becomes a bonafide NFL QB and Gholston develops, we will have done very well the last few years if that happens? The Giants while drafting very well, gave away a huge amount of value to get Eli and it was the cornerstone of their SB team. Hard to argue the Pats ability to put themselves in great position draft after draft but even the Pats have decided to take sure things when they present themselves to fill holes.
Win with defense and knock people like Brady, Chad (yes, Chad) and TO the fuck out. That's how you do it, it's been done before.
Let's see how brilliant the NE staff looks after Bart Scott drills Brady and takes out his knee and there's no Cassel to fill in for him. I never intentionally wish for injuries, but this is a very real possibilty.
So now it matters whether or not a certain % are home grown? I thought the goal was the Superbowl, by whatever means necessary (outside of cheating). As far as talent goes, I'll play. On both sides of the ball, there are 22 total starters. Of that total, let's just go down the list and see who's good, proven good: Brick Mangold Moore TJ Leon Cotchery Richardson Keller ------------ Jenkins Ellis Harris Pace Scott Revis Rhodes Then you have your unproven - or even questionable - guys with potential: Stuckey, Clowney, Lowery, Shepphard, Leonhard, and I'm just gonna throw Gholston in there because we really don't know yet. But excluding those guys, that's 16/22 who are good, and some of whom haven't even peaked yet. And again, this is within just a 4 year span under an inept Head Coach. If this is decline, I'd like to know your opinion of the other 16 teams choosing before us; they must be in abyss.

Of the Patriots twenty-two positional starters last year fourteen were drafted by the team: Cassell, Maroney, Watson, Light, Mankins, Koppen, Kaczur, Warren, Wilfork, Seymour, Bruschi, Mayo, Hobbs and Sanders. One additional player was undrafted and developed as a UFA: O'Neal. That's two thirds of the Pats homegrown including the entire offensive and defensive lines. The Jets are fifty percent home grown and fifty percent in the trenches. There's no comparison between the amount of home grown talent that the two teams have: like everything else the Pats are just ahead by leaps and bounds. Which is why they win 11+ games every year and 14+ a lot of the time while we have to get lucky to win 10. We have a weak front office, with a lousy organizational strategy and that has been the case since Parcells left town - which is why we are 62-66 over the last 8 seasons, while the Pats are 97-31. We should be more like them in the way that we organize the team. I'm not saying go get Pats players, I'm saying act like the Pats organizationally in terms of the way we acquire talent and stock the team. Right now we're doing a weak job and that makes us a weak sister in the AFC East wars.
