again, we couldnt and wouldnt trade coles because we would have taken a 7 million dollar cap hit, instead of 1. this means that it would have been way cheaper to just keep him and play him. he was willing to restructure to give us a free pass essentially to let him hit the open market. If his contract was actually tradeable, we probably would have done so. But to do so it would have cost us 7 million for someone who wasnt going to play this year. by restructuring the deal to let him walk, we did ourselves a great favor. Remember this isnt madden not everyone is tradeable! contracts come into play in the real world!
I believe the Jets had to negotiate with Coles just to refrain from paying him a bonus. So they were lucky they got to release him without paying guranteed money. There was never a trade option.
The thing is they do put huge cap hits on you in Madden, only problem being that you can just delete your cap penalties every season at the cost of "morale." That and the cap goes up way too much each year, but there certainly are penalties when trading huge contracts.
Greg Lewis doesn't stink - he's very fast. I can see him producing pretty good numbers in the Patriots' offense. I'm pissed the Pats replaced Gaffney so easily. I have a feeling you'll be eating your words next season.
I'm not worried about it because I feel that Gaffney is a better player than Lewis. I was hoping the Jets would sign either Brandon Jones, Michael Clayton, or Jabar Gaffney. So much for that. They all signed elsewhere- Jones with SF, Clayton stayed with the Bucs, and Gaffney signed with Denver. There are two other WOs I'd like the Jets to consider. Bryant Johnson and Brandon Lloyd were UFAs the last time I checked. I hadn't heard anything about them. Perhaps they signed somewhere and I missed it. EDIT: Johnson signed with Detroit. The Jets need a guy like that. They need a veteran to start opposite Cotchery, but they do not need a star at the position for 2009. If they could sign Johnson or Lloyd to some sort of contract whereby they could cut the dude next offseason without too much of a cap hit, it'd be great. Then in late April, the Jets can draft a guy like Darrius Heyward-Bey or Brian Robiskie or Kenny Britt or some other worthwhile wideout. Hopefully, whoever that may be would be able to start by 2010. I think Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey, and David Clowney are backups. I cannot envision any of those three becoming consistent and worthwhile starters.
Actually it's a 5th for Lewis and a 7th, and lewis is signed for 3 years all under 1 mil Coles would have been a huge cap hit for anyone trading for him
Lewis is a faster Gaffney who also plays ST. Could be a very good replacement. I'll hold judgement until I see him running routes. He should catch more passes than last year with Pats being basically a passing team.
He doesn't have to be.....but he has better hands, is faster and plays ST's.... I'd say...Lets see what he does opposite Moss and Welker.....
