To me, Mangini's #1 fault was that he was unable as a coach to get the most out of his players. He always seemed to be seeking players who fit his "system", rather than tailoring his system to his players. This resulted in the export of some good players from the Jets (notably Vilma), but worse, I think it cramped a lot of players on the roster, and let to frustration both from the coaching side as well as from the players side. I don't think too many players were sad to see Mangini go.

I think until he learns that a coach's job is to COACH - meaning teach his players to be better and stronger, he will not be successful. Maybe getting fired taught him something, but as noted earlier his short time between jobs may have hurt that process, as he didn't have much time to reflect.

Mangini is, in my opinion, too subborn to be successful. Until that changes, I fear that you and your fellow Browns fans will be disappointed, much as the Jets fans were over the past three years, by and large. I'd watch his use of personnel - is he pushing guys to get the most from them. Is he changing formations, schemes and plans to better use their natural talents? If so, he's learned and you can have hope. If you see him trying to find the right players for his system, and wasting talent by putting them in places that are not ideal for them, then I'd say you have the same coach that was in New York and you'll get the same results.

Yeah, supposedly he was really upset about Mangini being fired, as he and Mangini are really tight. Mangini wanted him in Cleveland and Cox followed.

Agree 100 percent! Mangini is much like Thanksgiving Day Dinner, at first he looks real good, then seconds and then thirds, but by the time dinner is over, you have a huge Upset stomach at liking that much in the dinner in the first place! Be afraid, be very afraid.

    Thanks Guys!
Gives me more incite on the man and what you guys went thru with him.
Well lets hope for my Browns sake he did learn from his mistakes.
From what you guys tell me he sounds to me like Butch Davis. He had the same traits.
And it didn't take long till the media and fans got to him. He actually broke down towards the end of his 3rd season as coach. rumor has it he was sitting on the locker room floor alone breathing into a paper bag....
Well again thanks! Good luck in the 09!!
Who knows? Maybe we'll see a Jets, Browns AFC TITLE GAME!!!
