So far I have really liked what we have done this offseason on defense. But it seems to me that we have been ignoring a glaring weakness which is our offense. We have lost Brett Favre, Chris Baker, and Laveranues Coles. We have replaced them with nothing, and seemingly are relying on unproven backups to fill these positions out. This offense already lacked playmakers and now seems destined to be stagnant. I understand that Ryan wants this team to run the ball effectively, but this just won't work in the NFL without some sort of threat besides the running backs. Jerrico Cotchery is a great number 2 reciever but he isn't exactly making defensive coaches plan around him. We need a true game breaker at reciever; whether that be Anquan Boldin, Braylon Edwards, or TO. (Just to clarify I do not actually tant TO on this team) Point is with no threat to a passing game we will be easily game planned for. With breaking in a new QB this year how about we actually give him a chance to succeed? I know the offseason isn't over yet, but I would like to see some progress on Offense. :jets:
Ya. there's been lots of discussion on this... you're right on to a point... but you really have to consider Rex Ryan, where he came from and the writing on the wall for what he is building. I just dont see us going after that big time WR... if thats what you're after, and everyone has their opinions on what we need, then hope for Maclin in the Draft...
I think the Jets go WR/QB in the draft. If they don't get anything they want I think they're content to sit for a year with what they have. Really, I think Ratliff or Clemens can handle the QB spot, and I don't think Coles really scared teams. He was no longer a real deep threat and Clowney, if healthy, should put more fear into defenses. As for Baker, he was just a backup TE and the Jets are looking to sign a blocking TE as we speak. So while they certainly haven't improved the offense (well except maybe at QB) I think the Jets are content with that they have.
I wouldn't even mind to get Sanchez in the draft as long as there is something this offense can hang its hat on. Right now we are putting all of our eggs in a 30+ year old basket. Which time and time again has proven to be the cutoff for running backs.
I didn't want to seem like I thought teams were gameplanning around Coles. I thought our recievers were mediocre at best last year. With him giving up 6 million of guaranteed money I feel like we could spend that wisely on another reciever that is actually better than him. I really think as we stand right now we will have the worst offense in the AFC next year. I just hope we can find some gems in the draft.
Back to my point about Rex and what he's building... going into last year, wouldn't you have said BALT had one of the worst Offenses in the AFC? A young or even rookie QB, a dynamic TE that can stretch it a bit, a good OL, a perhaps aging but solid RB, and were weak at WR... sound familiar? And the Ravens made quite a run last season.
Don't panic, free agency has not finished yet and we still have the draft. Trust Rex Ryan to sort things out, the defence is set and now he'll start of the offense.
No way are the Jets putting all of our eggs on Thomas Jones... We have Leon Washington and he's one of the best #2 RB's in the game today and believe me you...Rex Ryan will make sure that Leon is a huge part of the Offense next year and if you ask me, we have one of the best O-Lines in the league and thats the reason why we had the AFC's leading rusher last year. We just need to have a ball control type of offense because our D should carry us into the playoffs.
I thought the same thing as you. I love what they are doing on Defense but you have to have more than TJ on offense. I must say I am a fan of offense and from the looks of Rex is going old school which could make for some boring games.
yup. our new and improved D should hold the average offense to 20pts or less. but....can our 'not new' and 'non improved' offense score 21? that's the $64,000,000 question
