ratliff wasn't drafted.... and if we are going to go on pure potential, Sanchez wins. Skillset and leadership alone he could be able to win on - with 16 games under his belt.
NDMick made a good point. A QB who can make all the throws, make a play in the 4th quarter. Chad cannot make all the throws. He did not make plays in the 4th quarter. Unless you count the INT he threw to Revis in game 1 this past season. He can manage a game, agreed. Clemens and Ratliff have the arm to make throws. Do they have the smarts to pick the right one is the question to be answered in TC.
So then we dont give 16 games to Clemens to prove himself then? Sanchez has had what leadership skills on a NFL basis? Sorry, Un-Sold. Clemens at the Combine along with Jay Cutler looked as Each had a Skillset to win a starting NFL Job. Same could be said about Sanchez, and I doubt very much if we even have the cap room to sign him if you want to re-structure Washington's deal as well as Mangolds and our other draft picks. Not going to happen. We need a QB to Manage a game, not win it, but also not to loose it. Big Ben passed maybe 20 tmes a game with the Steelers, they won it all with Defense and thats the way we are going. 38 years and counting, and we havent had a pure "Smash-Mouth" defense since Mark and Klecko!:breakdance:
Sanchez will need to sit a year - so Clemens/Ratliff get a year to prove themselves this year regardless. It works out for everyone. I hate that. It gets you no where. I want a QB who can manage, lead and win a game. Stop accepting mediocrity. yea the defense will be there after this year, but when Big Ben had to pass the ball what did he do? he won the game. Did you see the SB?? Who truly won it at the end? Was it not the vaunted Steel Curtain being beaten with 2:34 left in the 4th qtr. A game manager on the Steelers makes the Cardinals SB Champions.
Well then there should be no problem starting Clemens then, because now we have a very good O line, and couple of excellent running backs, a promising TE and hopefully a couple of solid receivers. So now he won't have to do it all on his own, his team mates will step up as well......
Its so sad. They give up a 3rd round pick for one year of BF, turn the doormat of the division into a playoff team and after all that they are looking for the next Pennington. And for god's sake, I hope the people who want Sanchez aren't the same people who thought Penny's arm was too weak.
1. Winning games is one of the criteria for evaluating a quarterback. However, for the comparison to be worthwhile you have to have the QBs playing the same games against the same competition, under the same conditions. Only then is the comparison relevant. Saying this guy did better because he won more games against different opponents is meaningless. 2. Chad played especially well against the Patriots in the first game. He can't play defense as well. The point is he kept them in the game against a team that was destroying opponents week after week. 3. Chad threw a handful of passes that cost his team games, but overall he was much better than Clemens, who threw half the touchdowns and more interceptions. Ironically, Chad's picks cost the team few games than Favre's. 4. My point here is they both beat the same team and both played well so this is a wash. It seems you're just arguing for aguements sake. 5. The Jets beat the Steelers in spite of Clemens, not because of him. 6. If anyone other than Herm Edwards is coaching the Chiefs, the Jets lose. The only reason the Jets won was because the Chiefs started the only QB in the league that might have been more inept than Clemens. 7. Clemens was not a rookie, he was a second-year player. Pennington and Clemens played for the same coach, behind the same line. Pennington played better. If you don't see these reality in these points there's not much more I can say.
If you don't see these reality in these points there's not much more I can say. Well let's just say we agree to disagree and the issue will be resolved and the questions answered by Nov of this year.. Only then will the Pro and Con Clemens camps know for sure who was right or wrong. If Ratliff beats him out I will be more then happy to admitt I was dead wrong about the kid and root for Ratliff as I would any starting Jets QB.. An I am sure the Clemens is a bust camp will be happy to have been proven wrong and see the guy turn into a solid starter if it means the Jets are winning...... We all may disagree on how to get there, but there is no disagreement on getting there.... :jets:
wow...............seriously? when will that name stop being brought up other than when we play the dolphins
