Where can I start? Wow...I'm just loving the fact that we have a real 3-4 Defense with a coach that understands how to run a real nasty 3-4 Defense, I love it. Our front 7 will be really tough for opposing O's with the addition of Bart Scott, a MLB who has been blessed with the opportunity to play alongside one of the best MLB's to ever play the game in Ray Lewis. David Harris should be one happy man because Bart Scott will help Harris out in sooo many ways, lets just put it this way... Barton isint even on the same playing field as Scott as of right now. The Jets just upgraded and upgraded in a strong way. David Harris and Bart Scott playing behind one of the best 3-4 NT's in the game? Are you kidding me? Good luck to opposing RB's and O-Lines because I cant see teams rushing for over 80 yards on this front 7. We REALLY have some LB's who can make some plays behind Jenkins in David Harris, Bart Scott, Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas and I honestly believe that Gholston will come into his own here in 2009. Lets hope that Rex Ryan can turn Vernon Gholston into a Suggs type of player rushing from the outside, if he can...This Jets Defense will be one of the best Jet D's to ever rock Green and White. Harris and Scott leading the way for the Defense as our two MLB's. Pace and Gholston rushing from the outside with Bryan Thomas coming off the bench. And you know what? With a 3-4 Defense, you can never have enough LB's so I wouldnt be against drafting a solid prospect in rounds two or three. Jenkins plugging up the middle and DEMANDING double teams @ all times with Ellis and Coleman holding their own... I really like what I'm seeing out of this front 7 next year with Rex calling the shots. And this Jets secondary SHOULD BE one hell of a unit with three pro bowl players in Revis, Rhodes and now Litto Sheppard! We already know that Revis is one of the best shut down corners around, we already know that Kerry Rhodes has talent that most Safetys only dream of having and we now know that we have a #2 CB in Litto who can really shut down opposing #2 WR's... Im so freaking pumped up right now because I know that Lowery will turn on to be a really good #3 Nickel/Dime CB and the days of watching #2 WR's destroy our secondary are over because Sheppard is still REALLY good and should be elite for another 3-4 seasons. Revis, Rhodes and now Sheppard with Lowery as our #3 CB is ONE HELL OF A Secondary. Jenkins=the best 3-4 NT in the game today. Pace, Gholston, Thomas, Harris and Scott all have the talent and potential to lead this Jets Defense for years to come. One heck of a unit if you ask me. The thing is...I expect this Jets Defense to get stronger before the draft, we really have a shot here in 2009... Cant wait for the draft and I cant wait for week one baby! All in all...Signing Scott and Sheppard has me thinking playoffs already
lol...I'm not trying to say all of that because we still have a lot of question marks on the offensive side of the ball. Favre has retired and we just cut Coles so thats only going to make it harder on our QB next year...I have a feeling Kellen will be the QB here in 09 for the Jets, and you never know...With the O-Line and rushing attack we now have, this kid really may do a solid job. All I know is this, this Jets Defense will be the key reasons why we win games in 09 and who knows? Maybe they can carry us deep into the playoffs
Ratliff will be brought in to manage the game and provide deep passes when needed.........this TEAM will be much improved
i think we will rank 4th in overall defense because it is going to be our first year, with this particular squad. if we can get a wide reciever we will be good enough on offense where our defense can hold it down. but we need that WR, trade for boldin anyone? i rather have an experienced WR knowing what he can do versus a rook who needs a year or 2 to get on track, we would have 2 of the toughest recievers in football if they just trade for boldin.
The campaign for the 2009 TGG Sunshiner Award was begun! haha, I agree though. The potential of this D could be amazing.

One other thing I'd like to add to the OP's post - the addition of Scott and Leonard should help tremendously in the pass D, specifically with regard to the secondary receiving options that killed us last season (the RB's, the TE's, the slot receivers). We could not defend them last season - now we have some of the pieces in place in the middle of the field to cover these people. I know we have some question marks on offense, but I'm so excited about seeing our D play this season and I've always felt great defenses win even with mediocre offenses (2000 Baltimore being the perfect example).
The Jets will be last in the division We will have the worse QB in the division And the Pats D wasn't bad anyway Dolphins will only get better once Bill gets all his pieces
I think with us adding Scott, Sheppard & us now having a coach who is going to try to sack the QB our D is already better. Also with these 2 moves that tells me the Jets are going WR or QB 1st round. I am hoping QB 1st & WR 2nd & we will be fine.
I'm not sure I understand the rampant optimism. Without being cheeky, why so much love for Ryan? Rhetoric?
he brings a more aggressive attitude and swagger that Mangini never portrayed in his time with the Jets. Myself and many on the board feel this is one of the missing ingredients needed for our team to be successful. I mean...nobody knows how well Rex will do as a HC..he's defenitly been talking the "talk"..but as a fanbase...how could we not feel optimistic?
Cause Mangini was in over his head he did not rush the QB he played the prevent D all day & we lost games cause of it. Ryan has already said read & react is for someone else WE ARE GOING TO RUSH THE QB.
Rex will most certainly rush the quarterback, but if you're looking to deviate from a prevent defense, then I'd drop the Jets as your team of choice until the Ryan era concludes.
Our "prevent" defense was having 9 guys running around stupid 300 miles away from the line of scrimage. Anything Rex can bring will be a huge upgrade. Sounds like you have a bad case of "Rex Grapes", so to speak! I also think his father, Buddy, knows a tad bit about running a Defense, as he did with Philly for a long time, no? Enjoy Ray in his declining years.
