Watch the new video on newyorkjets.com it talks about the origins of the J-E-T-S chant and they interview the originators of the chant as well as Fireman Ed who has carried it on at the Meadowlands. As a guy here in Canada who does not have the privilege of going to home games, and at 23 years old not having experienced the history of the team the the older fans have, I truly gained some pride from watching this. It makes me wanna move to NYC and try to geat seasons so that I can say "I was there." All of you that get to go to home games regularly, I hope you realise how lucky you are. I hope I get to see the Jets at home some day but for the forseeable future I am going to have to see them in Buffalo and get death threats all game. For the Jets, it's worth it. Hearing those guys on the video talk, I wish I had a New York accent, all I have is a Canadian accent, but that's what it's all a-boat eh!
A grown man teary eyed. Did you set out to do that? Great tribute to history. I remember the fake spike pass being my first live memory of a game. As a little kid, I had no idea it would (in)famously become part of the long history of a sometime starcrossed, but surely storied organization. An organization and team that I deeply rooted and cared for. Optimism, hope for next year and the unflappable ideal that we are somehow more qualified to run the team than the people who are. This is what makes us fans and this is why we cheer. Thanks for that Jtuds.
I've brought this up before. I remember that guy specifically, I just didn't know his name. We used to call him "the guy in the Riggins wig". He'd often be there with no shirt on in the dead of winter. Memories... Man, I shared some classic Shea Stories when I first joined here. I enjoined people who were diehard carry overs from Shea to chime in, but not many takers. Could be the age gap. And of course I was there for the goal post getting torn down. My Dad was crying! HAH! What a sap! EDIT: nyjunc was there, no doubt. Champ69 probably burned his brown-panelled Ford Station wagon in protest - er, conquest.
Man, what the hell is wrong with you.......great job on the video and its nice to see a little pride and maybe wishing you were more a part of the history....but give it a rest. You want a completely different identity so you can be more a part of a team's history?
story of the chant in case you never learnt the story of the J-E-T-S chant theres a good video on the website. I never knew that it wasnt fireman ed who didnt start it
This was on Jet Nation over the weekend. I only know this because I was home on leave and caught the program.
I do pretty well, but my Queens accent comes out when I lose my temper. I think I'm due. Har. Born in New York City, NY, and I'm mighty proud of that, seeing as it's the greatest g*ddamn city in the greatest country on the face of the planet. I choose to be subjective here, and with good reason. I think it leans more towards syntax than accent. "I don't got time" as opposed to "I don't have time". Like that. A classic of my Dad's: "JESUS H. CHRISTFERCRYIN'OUTLOUD, you're spilling yer milk all over the joint!" Translation: "You elbowed your glass of milk all over the dinner table." I loved my Daddy something fierce. He was so sold on Namath he held onto a pair of stubs from 1965 for sentimental reasons (Namath's rookie year). In my desk drawer, they are.
ITs on the front page, its a green screen, just click play.... Sick video saw it last week, very interesting..
I'm definitely proud to be from NY but I cringe at family reunions hearing people speak. I think alot of people in the area exaggerate their accents.
When I 1st saw the thread title I thought it was gonna be another stupid topic showing the Jets draft blunders.
Damn. Have you seen the Wayne Chrebet video on the site yet? That guy makes me proud to be a Jets fan.
That was a great video. If anyone hasn't seen it, they need to check it out. He talks about how he will miss getting hit, and if he has future problems because of the concussions, it was worth it. He loved the game and always wanted to make the fans proud
man... i got chills from watching that video... hes a great guy. Screw Noel Mazzone, he should be our WR coach.
