Hemi, Tom Brady got his shot cause of an injury & he was on the bench for 1 year he didnt sit for years. Steve Young was in the USFL which folded than went to Tampa they were the Lions of that time period god would not have made them good. Than he went to San Fran & sat behind Montana he was already good he did not learn from Montana & became good. If Montana was on Tampa the instead of Young at that same time Tampa still would have sucked. Hasselbeck was stuck behind Favre in his prime Holgrem traded for him cause he was the Packer ex coach & he already knew he was good. Rivers was a 1st round pick who was supposed to be the man but had to sit they had Brees or he would have started right away unless you think he should have started over Brees right away. I am 35 I do not know the details of Starr, Bradshaw & Staubach so looks like you got 1 Romo not to good NEXT !
So now you are putting criteria on how long a player sat? Come on man. Weak at best. Does it matter who they sat behind? In that case, any argument can be made. Such as, Ryan started because Redman sucked. Flacco started because Boller sucked, and so on. Stop changing the rules to suit your position. Young did not start in Tampa, Steve Deberg was the starter. After a few years there and questionable results, he then moved on SF. At the time any team could have made a play for him, as a quality starting QB is a hot commodity in any era, but the Niners did as a backup to Montana. Are you saying that he was ready, and 27 other NFL staffs were wrong and missed out? Or was he more suited as a backup at that point? Young was questioned and labeled as a running QB, not a standard passer, as the style of the NFL was more a standard drop back passer. It took him time to learn how to be a proficient passer, and not just a scrambler. You want to argue who these guys sat behind then I don't know what to tell you. Who's to say sitting and learning behind a guy like Favre, Montana or Don Meredith didn't help guys like Hasselbeck, Young and Staubach. My point is that it is a crapshoot. Drafting and starting a QB right out of college does not always work. Depends on the system they were in while in college, the situation they get into on whatever team drafts them, the talent surrounding them (a BIG key, as can the other players cover their growing pains AKA Ben Rothlisberger and Rivers) and of course, their natural talent. Obviously, at some point, that talent comes through. But for every Dan Marino, a starter straight out of college, there is a David Klingler, a Alex Smith, Ryan Leaf, ect. You seem more concerned with winning debates with your "I won" endings like "Next" instead of just hearing people out and discussing. I am sure I can find more QBs that sat, but do not have the time right now.
Don't be so hard on him. I think he forgets he's not back in the deli slicing meat for customers.
Sorry Jetzz dont work at a deli & Big Blocker I dont have time to right everything perfect I am at work.
So do you want me to lie & say everything is going to be great sorry I am not a green kool aid drinker. I am not going to say Kellen is going to be great & our D is going to turn around & Ryan is going to lead us to the bowl thats not been real.
That's not a valid argument since Warner is a vet. You're talking about a battle between two young kids with limited NFL experience. Not that I totally agree with the original post, but I don't exactly disagree with the notion that have a competition in TC does take snaps away from whoever will ultimately be your starter. P.S. That avatar is gold. Pure gold.
I'm just curious as to why you have throw that NEXT in after you posts... Thought it might have been an occupational hazard...
its been so long since I've been on this forum, and how little do things change. DHARRIS is right. We do NOT go after a FA, and if it is it will be a FA that doesnt demand alot of money, and have an open competition with the QBs we have. Clemens has promise. But our future should be in 2010 and we should strongly consider that Draft Class as our potentional deliverance for this position. Let me see Brett Favre throw behind the offensive line Clemens had in 07' it would've been horrendous. Clemens is an excellent QB. Yea. I said it. You want to argue stats? Go ahead, his stats are horrible, and because Ratliff dominated against a 3rd string defense in ONE game in the preseason everyone is going apeshit over the kid from Utah. Give me a break. Unless Ratliff pulls a Matt Cassel-like career turn around, going from backup in obscurity to a QB that can produce, then I will gladly sell my body on 52nd street. But the reality is. Ratliff isn't great, and the only reason I've read people consider Matt Cassel good is because his target is Randy Moss. Matt Cassel = Eli Manning. Average QBs. I saw how Clemens shitted on the RAVENS, with only Coles,Cotchery, Smith, and that piece of shit McCareins. We now have a solid running game, an offensive line that has matured and has strength, Dustin Keller, Chansi Stuckey, my sleep in David Clowney, and the receiving corps from 2007 in Coles, Smith, Cotchery and the most underrated tightend in the league in Chris Baker. We possibly have the BEST offensive team in the league in terms of talent. All we are missing is the Quarterback, and a tall, prototype receiver. Give the keys to Clemens, because he will prove he is better than Ratliff barring injury.
I would love Matt Stafford but we need to draft before the Chiefs in order to get him and that isn't likely.
