Don't get me wrong I enjoy bashing Tanny and Woody as much as the next guy but I had a revelation during Brett's press conference today that changed my perspective on Tanny... Hear me out on this one... Tanny said all along that he wanted Brett back next year... Brett stated in his press conference that Tanny communicated to him numerous times that they wanted him back and he was welcome if he chose to continue playing... All along we sort of took Tanny's sentiments at face value and just said "ohh okay I guess they want him back" A moment later in Brett's conference call he stated that Tanny and Woody weren't pressuring him for a decision and he decided to let them know asap so that the Jets could move on and out of respect for the organization. In the end Brett announced early... before FA, combine, etc. to treat Tanny and Woody with the same respect that they gave him. For this I applaud Tanny for handling the situation perfectly to get the desired result. Did Tanny and Woody REALLY want Brett to come back? Who knows? No one but them will ever know for sure. But we must give credit to Tanny for his brilliance in people skills here. Dealing with people in the wrong manner in a situation like this can really turn a situation into a mess and now I truly think this is where Ted Thompson failed. Like the title of my post asks... Maybe Tannenbaum is a lot smarter than we have been giving him credit for? Maybe he never played football and maybe he's not a genius with X's and O's but maybe it's his people skills that are his biggest asset. Lots of ex-players like Ted Thompson (who played in the NFL for like 10 years) would not have handled this as well.
Only problem with Tanny is the fact we lost a 3rd for what??? The Jets are in worse shape now then they were a year ago at QB.
Asides from the fact that he comes across as a boob in his press conferences, what isn't to like? He's done an outstanding job with the roster and the Jets have a core of players that will keep the competitive for years, all while being under the cap consistently.
That's BS. If the Jets had won a SB with Favre then the *1st* round pick we would've given up would've been well worth it. Our chances with Favre were better than Pennington. Favre broke down at the end at that was to eventually be expected... it's too bad it happened this past year.
How's it BS? Besides the Zona game what did he do that Chad couldn't? Not only that who is the QB now??? Its the same spot as last year but we had a guy who won games at QB on the roster and now we dont and lost a 3rd for it.There are 3 guys with no real experience at the QB spot.
You can't possibly compare Brett Favre to Chad Pennington. If you really think they're even similar, then I can't help you. As for who our QB is now, I believe personally we have our QB of the future on the roster. So many in NY though are obsessed with the big name star Joe Willie wannabe that they fail to see a few facts: 1) When you have a stellar dominating defense, like I expect Rex Ryan will aim to install, you don't need a top tier QB. 2) You can take a QB who will play smart football, not turn the ball over, and make some plays once in a while... and win the Super Bowl with that QB. 3) The way the Jets roster is built, they can do some damage in the passing game, but the real strength is in the running attack. So, I'm completely and perfectly comfortable going into this season with Clemens and Ratliff to see what we have. I'm sick of seeing unheralded players leave our roster and go on to have great careers in other places.
you forget the NE game? Plus the leadership and winning attitude he brought you can't get with a 3rd rd pick I'm glad he came and so is the team......
i agree i think tanny is better than we think.. and on the whole whether or not tanny and woody wanted favre back, after listening to the radio interviews today with tanny and rex ryan i got the feeling that they were hoping that brett would retire. they kept saying that they never pressured favre to come back and after finding out he was going to retire never tried to persuade him. i dont think they wanted to come out and say they didnt want him back just to respect him.
I don't think he is bad at all. Never did. I was done with Chad, no matter what he did with anyone else. He took a gamble and in the end did not lose that much. If Favre held up physicallly or if the D played better, we make the playoffs. As more time goes by the decision to get rid of Mangini looks better and better and I wasn't for it. We are somehow under the cap already with more cuts to go.
The one unseen benefit of the farve era was is gave us a means to reasonably sever ties with Pennington. In many peoples opinions it was past due for him on the Jets. It was nigh impossible to have someone beat him out in TC because Chad is the TC Champion! Bringing in a HOF'r like Farve made it palatable to the fans, the media, the team, Chad etc... It was a gamble that worked for 11 games and then fell apart. I can look back and say I liked the move at the time and accept that it didn't work out. Now it's time to move on and stop crying - Ryan bring us to the White House!!!
you find me the organization that doesn't lie to its fans, and i'll show you an organization that's not telling the truth.... Hint: they are the same entity.
I'll put the rest of my vcash up to say Chad does not lead the Fins to the playoffs this year, it was time
