http://jets.lohudblogs.com/2009/02/09/less-for-moore/ I hope they don't get rid of Moore. Last year was probably his best year as a pro and another year with the same 5 guys on the line would be huge.
him and Mangold were amazing together in the running game... I don't want to lose him either... Re-work his contract. Continuity is important in this league, especially in the trenches.
I've said this before...I would bet that 75% of all of the Jets 15yd+ gains from scrimmage, went to the right side of the line (Woody and Moore). I think Moore is fantastic, and seems to get better every year.
The problem with Moore is his contract. They renegotiated his deal and gave him big increases each season when he threatened to hold out in 2007. So now the team is having to pay the bill. His roster bonus this year is so big (5M) that I assumed he'd be an automatic cut. ************************************* from jason's http://www.nyjetscap.com page (an excellent resource) Moore signed a 3 year extension to the deal on September 12, 2007 worth a possible 17.4 million dollars. Moore also received an increase in salary for 2007 along with the extension. Moore can be paid roster bonuses of $200,000(2007), $620,000(2008), $5,000,000(2009), and $2,000,000(2011)
It's a money thing. Despite the love for him he's pretty average, and if the Jets can get comparable talent for less they (obviously) make that move.
Moore looks like one our more motivated players. He was always in the end zone celebrating with Jones,Washington,or Favre after a touchdown
Thanks for pointing out that it's about money. Never could have figured that out by reading the article. Hopefully Tanny can get him to restructure. Plugging in someone who is even the same caliber player would be a downgrade as we'd be losing chemistry on the line. He's not a great guard, but he's solid and coming off his best season. They're talking about guys on the practice squad - no one wants to see another Adrien Clarke.
nearly 15 million over the cap...and needing about 5 mil for rookies 20 million worth of changes to bring in rookies...and even more to bring in any potential FA's that will call for a lot of restructuring and a few cuts... moore's 5 million cap figure is a big question mark going into the offseason...i'd like to spend the draft on the defense, but a rookie guard is an affordable and good option
Moore is an average Guard. He's definitely not the next Larry Allen. And at almost 6M he's getting paid like an All Pro. The team only takes a 380K hit if he gets cut. So I think Tannenbaum planned all along to get rid of him this off-season.
they shouldn't get rid of him he is a real under rated guard. and if we do we should cut him at least trade him and get a draft pick or something(DONT CUT HIM HE IS A SOLID PLAYER)
cutting barrett/bowens/baker/kassell/e. smith/and favre saves us around 22.5 million and we currently need around 20 to sign draft picks ....and if we want to bring anyone in...then we can have whoever is willing from faneca/rhodes/pace/ellis/coleman/thomas/moore renegotiate but if we bring back favre...i'd say moore is definitely a goner
I like Moore as a staple player on the OL...he's been a model citizen(despite acouple contract disputes) and is a solid player. W/ that said his current contract is a cap nightmare and frankly if we slide Woody inside he's a better all around guard than Moore. Perhaps that is the answer. We could upgrade the RG position by moving Woody inside...remove ourselves of Moore's contract and find a long term solution at RT. Who that RT is i'm not sure...but there are certainly options
He's nothing moore than average. Any surprise his "best" year was being surrounded by talent. Not a bad player, but not worth breaking the bank over
I'd really like to see him get restructured instead. As was mentioned earlier, having the same OL going into next year would be huge.
Moore must be kept, hes not an all star but hes one of the most underrated players on this team. and when the line sucked a couple years back he was always inaccurately the scapegoat around here. ask him to re-work it based on market value and do what you can to keep him. continuity=success on a line that proved more than solid last yr.
