I like Barton, but he's getting on in years. Should we want him to be the starter this coming year? It doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

sorry to go off topic, but who is the girl in the pic in your avatar MBGREEN and how can we see more pics of her?

oh and this is the first actual realistic FA post we have seen this offseason, nice comments overall, very possible to all of them, and props to whoever started the topic, it was right on.

Number of tackles are a shitty reason? And what stat do you look at when evaluating an ILB?

Bart Scott has played in Ryan's defense for 7 years so he knows what everyone should be doing. For your ILB who will be calling all of the signals, that's a big plus.

And he's three years younger than Barton and will probably not be too expensive.

I'm with you on Bartell. I would be fucking thrilled if we signed him.

Not only that, I truly believe a large part of us taking Gholston was Mangin's fear that Bellecheat would get him and he'd turn out to be the next Lawrence Taylor. I'm with you, I could give a fuck who the Pats take, since it seems like everyone they take turns out good anyway. Let's just worry about who will be the best fit for the Jets.

what's nice is that the Jets have cut ties with the Pats vs Jets coaching bullshit with Ryan.

That stuff should go away for a little while.

If we never made the bonehead mistake of dealing Vilma to the Saints, we wouldn't even be discussing this right now because we would have had THE best ILB tandem in the NFL for many years to come in Vilma & Harris.

Many believed Vilma was not suited to the 3-4.

i have no comments on free agents other than why does every fall in love with leonhard?

as far as the draft which has come up a number of times in this post.... BPA!!!!! let me say it again BPA!!!!!!! BPA BPA!!!!!!!

    best player available!!!!!!

there is NO other reason to draft anyone at anytime other than them being the BPA, drafting for needs is retarded, drafting for anything other than the bpa is retarded! if you dont think the bpa is suitable then try to trade, which probably doesnt work these days but try try again for up to what 10 minutes? then BPA i dont care who it is or what they do.

this league is too crazy to worry about we need this that and the other thing. there are many holes filled by journeyman type guys every year. if you continually draft the bpa the holes can be filled. when you start drafting for needs nothing gets filled.

Yeah, I mean I wouldn't mind having Barton start for another season but we do need to start looking for a replacement. I believe he would be okay for one more year, if the coaching staff decided to focus more on CB/Safety/QB/DE during the draft and FA

Tackles are only important if they're being made behind or at the line of scrimmage. 100 tackles, 85 of which come 8 yards or more downfield are not that useful.

Agreed. Also, you have to look at how good the defensive line is, as well as the other linebackers. Guys like Kris Jenkins make the LB job much easier.

Yep. That's about it. I don't feel great about him starting, but he's not the worst starter on the team. Far from it. He is getting on, though.
