With all the reports on Bush the last few days and the Jets I think it has become pretty clear what is shaping up in the draft. 1. I do not think we are going to draft a QB early. Working them out was due dilligence but, there have been a lot of reports that we are not looking QB in first round. (KFFL, NFL network). 2. Mario Williams is the #1 player on at least 6 big boards, likely including Texas'. He will be gone at 4, so Williams will not be an option for us. (Mortensen, NFL Network) 3. Some people think it is a smokescreen but Texas does not seem sold on Bush, but does seem sold on Mario. They seem to be trying to find a way to get Mario and picks. I do not think they will get a trade partner at 1, because the price tag is way too high. (ESPN, NFL network draft special, all over) 4. Saints seem to have AJ Hawk as their #1 guy. They would love to swap with the Jets and take Hawk. The nugget they are dangling is Leinart, but I do not think that we are interested in him. The only prize we would trade for is Bush at 2, but not before the draft. (Mortensen, local guy her in SD Werndl who does a good insider wire, others) 5. There are reports on profootballtalk and others that we have contacted Texas about trades. Others (mentioned in one of the Jets boards) say we are interested in Bush but only at 2 since #1 trade is too much 6. KFFL and others are starting to report Jet interest in Vernon Davis. Their have been rumours here in San Diego for a while that the Jets covet Davis, and this has been strengthened by Schott Jr. 7. Mangini has repeatedly said that he wants players that can fill multiple roles. That will do everything they can to win, and are solid people off the the field. There are several defensive players that fit this mold: Mario (who will not make it to 4), AJ Hawk, Manny Lawson, Bobby Carpenter among others. On offense though, there are really two: Reggie Bush Vernon Davis 8. Brick will likely be there at 4. 9. With the visits that they have made, and offseason signings, it seems almost certain that the Jets are going offense with their first pick. 10. So the Jets face two scenarios: Take the big lineman, or get a multi-faceted playmaker who is the "mold" for the future Mangini type player. I think they are going to do the latter. So the first pick will be one of the following: If Texas signs Williams: 1. Williams 2. Bush (trade with Jets)3. Cutler, Young or Leinart 4 AJ Hawk (No from Jets) If Texas takes Bush 1. Bush 2. AJ Hawk, Brick or trade 3. Cutler, Young or Leinart 4 Vernon Davis We will take either Bush or Vernon Davis as our first pick in this draft
Hmmm Very Interesting I tell you..... The more I talk about Vernon Davis or see something on him, the more I want him.... Damn this is scary and nerve wrecking ********************************************************************************* ************************************ *CLEAN IT UP...VULGARITY WARNING*
Bush would be the ONLY player i would agree to trade up for .. But I would give strong consideration to trading down to stockpile picks
Nice effort, you put a lot of thought into this one. No matter what is said though I can not see or imagine a scenario where Bush is not the first player selected regardless of who is there. He seems to have lost a little of the allure that he had during the season because everyone has put his aside for the last few months assuming he is going number one...rightly so. I dont know anything about the Jets being enamoured with Davis , I certainly hope this is not the case. Where I disagree with you, and many many others for that matter is the notion of the 'mangini' type player. We do not know what that is, no one knows because he has never had his own playters before and he says very little. Mangini inherited a system with players already in place last year, there was no need to change what was working. He has the chance now to make his own name. I realize that popular thinking would point towards the 3-4 because of the Parcells and Bellicheck connection. It make perfect sense that he will run a system that is similar to what he knows, but it makes more sense that because he came from such cmart coaches that he will create a system that will cater to the players on the roster. Now as far as a Mangini type guy I dont think there is anyway to figure out what that is yet, there is nothing from his past that would point out specifically what he is looking for. He has made vague statements saying that he like players who will help the team.....every coach likes those. What type of coach do you honestly think looks for ego maniacs. I know he has said that he wants a character guy, but how many top ten picks are not character guys, very few, having solid character is one of the things that separates some form others. All in all I would be happier with any of the top ten prospects before Davis except Cutler.
No way!!! There are NOT taken davis or bush. The texans are just see what kinda of trade offers are out there. Bush comes #1 either the texans pick him or they trade and someone else picks him. It would be insane for the jets to move up becuase no matter what there will be a great player at #4. This is the way I see it 1. Bush 2. Lienart(NO trades this pick) 3. Young 4. Willaims
Some good points but in the end I think we will go BPA, regardless of position My draft board at 4... 1-Bush 2-Leinart 3-Mario 4-Davis
I wouldn't hate Vernon Davis, in fact I'd really like it. As long as after that we went: 29) McNeill 35)Lawson/Carpenter/Howard Vernon Davis would make any QB look better; something both Penny and Ramsey have lacked is a playmaking TE.
