So far I have been very happy about all of the moves that tangini has done, I would have liked to have kept fabini and law but the realitity was we would have not been able to afford them, but there was one in particular that really got me upset, the releasing of Kevin Mawae. Mangini said he looking for people, who love and game and have good character right? Then why would you ever cut this guy. He was a huge team leader and motivator on our team, I can't see the offensive line being the same without him. He also only had 1 year left on his contract so you should have just let him play out it, I could understand not resigning him, but cutting him!!!!Kevin Mawae is one of those players who I think could play until he was 40 he is that good, you just can't cut people like that.
What has been coming out about Kevin is that he has a very big mouth which needs to be shut sometimes. He was a Herm guy and didnt want to accept a contract restructure. He declined and got cut. Tangini just wasnt comfortable with keeping him.
In the end the guy had a pick mouth and was demanding an excessive amount of money, something a 34 year old player, coming off of a season-ending injury, might not want to do if he intends to stay in the good graces of a new coach.
Right. He's also 35 and coming off a season ending triceps injury. When you combine that with Buttleman's point it's not really a great combo.
That's actually big mistake 1a Not starting a new relationship with Abe was not smart. Im glad we were able to get that #1 for him but honestly we know he was a superstar when healthy and 4-3 or 3-4 he could wreak havoc like not too many ca. I don' think this franchise will easily replace him. We've spent money so foolishly over the years, Abe would have been money well spent. We've all seen him take over games and he was improving his run-d. Our 29th pick will be compared to Abe's Falcon career for ever, I hope we choose well.
obviously there were some behind-the-scenes issues with Mawae that no one outside the organization is/was privy to. His contract was not a big the issue. If there were no other issues, the organization, if nothing else, could have kept him around as a mentor to the new O-line the Jets will presumably select in the draft. If you like what the FO has done so far, you have to give them so leeway on this move.
I doubt the loss of Mawae will be great.. I also feel he was a loyal Edwards guy and could have been a source of conflict in the locker room.. for this new regime, young, hungry, eager players will suit them best..
1) 4.46M 2) I hate it when people say, "He's a team leader/motivator." a) Why do they even NEED motivators? b) HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU KNOW? When you get a locker room pass, get back to me 3) He's 35 or 36, I forget 4) His play has been declining!
He also bad mouthed CP who did restructure his contract for the good of the team... Recovering to full strength from a torn tricep is not easy to come back from because you can't lift and strengthen so he definitely won't be back to 100% which makes me wonder about Barton And if he did restructure unwillingly who's to say he wouldn't miss blocks on purpose to spite the team....just can't take that risk
OUT with the old IN with the new I dont see anything wrong with all the moves so far. TIME FOR YOUTH AND TO REBUILD.
2.) Kevin Mawae was a team leader/motivator, i don't know what your talkign about. a) I don't even know why you would ask this question, you need motivators on your team, it's just a given. You think the pats one the superbowl with no team motivators, come on man, don't be an idiot. b.) I know he is a team motivator b/c he has been with the team for years, he has a great work eithic, nfl network shows behind the scenes stuff all the time, that basically like being in the locker room. It atleast gives you an idea. 3.) So what if he's 35 or 36, he still plays great 4.) How has his play declined, he got injured? Thats a stupid reason to say his play declined, he is still a great player and argueably the best center in the league. The fact that you would rip on a guy thats been with our team for years and question his leadership to the team is a disgrace.
I am going to miss Mawae being a Jet no doubt. Definitely when he used to level Zach Thomas when he pulled. That was my favorite. Also when he played with a club on his hand and whack the opposing DT with it. LOL. But the fact is a new regime is in place and he refused to work with them on his contract off the bat....they have to set an example and show the players that Herm isn't here anymore.
All indications are that we are going 3-4 last year. In the times we tried to place Abe in a 3-4 scheme, it failed. Why then would you insist upon taking on a new contract, for an oft-injured player, who would be SEVERELY overmatched due to his size (you need guys with Ellis' size and stopping power) and limited role as a pass rusher, not a run stuffer?
first of all this post is about 6 weeks too late...and the truth of the matter is mawae had become a mal-content and a lockerroom lawyer....pair that with his tearing of his triceps and i hardly think it was a terrible move...mawae was on tv a day after the season ended undermining management as the the whole herm circus was beginning...good bye and good riddance
