ifthe jets traded the 4 pick to the 49ers for the 6th and 22nd i think that would be a great move. With the uncertainty of greenbay and brett favre they might take a qb that means aj hawk could fall to the jets if not they could get cutler or wth the 6th and still have the 22 29 and 35
No way GB takes a QB in the first round 2 years in a row. If Favre retires they're going with Aaron Rogers.
I dont know that any team would be willing to give up a future 1st. And Im not to comfortable with moving down...finding a trade partner will be difficult, and really we arent guaranteed someone else could take the player were targetting, or trade in front of us for him Id rather just stay at 4 and take BPA, in this order 1-Bush 2-Leinart 3-Mario 4-Davis
I'm just not convinced the Jets would take Davis with the 4th overall pick. I really don't want D'brick either. If someone wants one of those QB's bad enough, they MAY give up a first next year. I don't think it's completely out of the realm of possibility. I'm not saying trade way down, but trading with say Oakland (again this is nothing but speculation) wouldn't be bad if we could get an additional day 1 pick at the very least. I would do one of these :breakdance: if the Jets grabbed Vernon Davis at 4. I have no problem at all with staying where we are. I'm just saying there may be a possibility we could trade down a few spots, still grab who we want, and get something else as well.
this is just copied from the Jets News 4/20 forum cuz i addressed this specifically -we have WAY too many holes to take a TE with our first pick and it would look ridiculous. -but if we were able to get their 22nd pick in exchange for moving down to 6 and grabbing Vernon Davis. -And at this point anyone wanting D'Brick, Mario or any of the 3 Qb's would be furious. (i want mario or a qb if we pick at 4 myself) -BUT, we could have a playmaker on Offense (i know needs work on his blocking, but that can be coached) But if you want D'Brick think of this, we could then draft Max Jean Gilles at 22 (if any of you think he'll be there in the 2nd rd your dead wrong.) And Nick Mangold at 29. Mangold replaces Mawae, and MJG could compete instantly. and in all reality kendall will be gone soon so its not like he'd be a wasted pick. -OK, so you wanted a Defensive pick. We could take a LB or DB at 22 (or Gabe Watson) then go offense at 29 OR EVEN VICE VERSA -my main point is, this could be VERY good for us if u think of the endless possibilities of having the 22nd, 29th, and 35th pick. plus a explosive presence the jets have lacked on offense. -and im not saying this is what i think we should do. but we could do ALOT of things if this happened. but then again possibly passing on Mario or the QB's could be a HUGE mistake but then again hindsight is 20/20 vision. -i'll be happy with almost any scenario, nothing can really be said until game day though.
there was an article in newsday today (a long island newspaper) about the patriots using early picks on tight ends, specifically daniel graham, and ben watson. if this rumor somehow becomes reality, i love it for the jets, they can grab at top notch passing game threat in vernon davis, who also brings character to the offense(think johnathon vilma at tight end) and we could also take d-angelo williams at 22, and offensive lineman at 29 and 35, i LOVE that deal for the jets if it were to happen.
I can see the 49ers trading both of their picks to the Saints for reggie bush....I see the Texans selecting Mario Williams
I can agree with everything your saying except for the drafting of Vernon Davis. At #6 I would draft Jay Cutler, chances are he will still be available. We don't use tight ends enough any way, and I would never pick a Tight End that high, I don't care how good they are, we have so much depth at the TE position anyway. I'm just glad we signed back Baker.
Correction: we didn't really use tight ends in the past. Remeber, Schottenheimer is our OC now. He comes from an offense that featured a guy named Antonio Gates. I think it would be safe to assume we may now run an offense similar to San Diego's. Especially if we had a talent such as Davis. Yes, we've got a lot of TE's on our roster, but no one CLOSE to a Vernon Davis. This guy would be a huge addition to our anemic offense.
Judging by history we won't be giving up much ... Judging by the Jets draft history we wouldm't be giving up all that much by trading off our 2nd rounder in order to move up. I know, I know it wasn't the magical Tangini drafting then and they are gonna find us a bunch of HOF's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I know we have all these needs but Rome wasn't built in a day. and while stealing famous quotes ... "History repeats itself" We should try to get that extra first rounder and move down to 6 if it presents itself. V Young at number 6 anyone there wasnt speculation of him possibly going 1 overall after the rose bowl for nothing that would be nice but i tihnk davis can help our offense more and im fine with going in planning on starting penny and using ramsey as relief or a strict backup
That would be fantastic. I don't think the 49ers would do it, we'd probably have to include a second or a third. If it went down the way it says above, how about: 6) Cutler 22) D. Williams 29) Lawson 35) McNeil That would be an unbeilevable draft!
For the love of God, we are NOT taking Vernon Davis. We have THREE tight ends already. Baker was pretty good before he got hurt. Yes, I know Davis is a GREAT tight end. I've done my homework on the guy. But we need other things before a tight end.
now thats what im talking about!! i was going to say the same thing!! that would be the greatest draft i would be so so so so happy!!!!!
These aren't your father's, not even your older brother's 49ers. These 49ers are a mess, and they just might be stupid enough to do this, though the jets would have to part with another first day pick for the draft point value to be fair. The "experts" claim it could happen so they can sign a marquee defensive player, but I think it makes more sense for them to move up to take an insurance policy on last year's #1 (Ferguson). If the Jets can add another 1st round pick, and bring their total of 1st round picks to a 3...then Mannenbaum is already making a case for FO of the year. I love this speculation! Any speculation is good specualtion, unless it involves the Jets drafting another TE with their 1st overall (haven't we learned...Mitchell, Brady, Becht) or the clear flash-in-the-pan (Young).
everyone says we have WAY too many holes but come on, in reality the only holes we have are at RT and NT, don't say QB, we traded for Ramsey to fill that need in case Pennington isn't ready, we signed Dyson so we won't draft a corner high, we made all these depth signings of guys who have started before and done a decent job (Pope, Clement, Teague) so really when you think about it, we could go into the season with what we have now and have all positions filled. I mean, we're not going to get 3 definite starters with our first three picks.
Needs, schmeeds. At a pick this high you take BPA, regardless of position. Unless you already have Antonio Gates on your roster, then Davis needs to merit serious consideration
