Forgive me if this sounds like something you've heard before, but the Dallas Cowboys are internally discussing the idea that Terrell Owens may be doing their football team more harm than good. According to the Star-Telegram, a lot of people are on board with the idea of getting rid of Owens, but a fellow named Jerry Jones is not yet one of them: Going T.O.-less has become a topic of serious internal debate at Valley Ranch. And an awful lot of Cowboys front-office types have decided parting ways with him is not only a good idea, but also necessary to fixing what is obviously wrong with this team. In fairness, none of them are named Owner Jones. Not yet at least. But word is people very close to him, including a certain son, have been in his ear. The question, as it always is with Jerry, remains: Will he listen? The reference is to Stephen Jones, son of Jerry, who is described in the article as "well regarded ... at home and in NFL circles." I had no idea there was a Jones depth chart. I guess they're like the Rooneys, except the complete opposite. Anyway, in regards to Owens, Cowboys fans have to see it as good news that at least someone wants to be rid of Owens. If nothing else, it means that at least one person is paying attention. If they head into next season with Wade Phillips remaining as head coach, and Terrell Owens remaining as the number one wide receiver, then what's really changed? You've still got a man perceived as soft captaining the ship, and you've still got the ominous cloud of locker room dissention that follows Terrell Owens wherever he goes. Aren't these the two things that sunk the Cowboys in 2008? Don't you have to at least change one of them? I don't want it to sound like I think Owens is the worst person in the world. I don't. He might be a perfectly nice, kind-hearted man with a soul made of powdered sugar. But if he's in your locker room, your locker room is bumfuzzled. That's just a fact. I don't know what it is about the guy, but it's how things are. Much like a Raiders fan without a criminal record, a happy and cohesive locker room that contains Terrell Owens is just something that can't exist. If you're the Cowboys, this will be the third consecutive year now where your team was thought to have Super Bowl talent. What you've gambled on in the past -- that talent being able to overcome the circus that Owens can't help but attract -- hasn't worked. It's time to try something else.
If the Cowboys really wanted to I'm sure they could just cut him and then go off and sign Houshmadzadeh to replace him. A 1-2 punch of Williams and Housh would be pretty sick. I don't see the point in keeping T.O. anymore, he's 35 years old and is going to have one of those drop-off seasons very, very, soon. I'd cut him.
If the cowboys are smart the answer is yes cut TO. It seems every team he touches seems to turn to mush.
TO is just done period... have someone stand around him and he lets the ball hit the ground and pees himself, then he yells at his QB for not throwing to him enough. and then wade phillips looks confused and takes off his headset. and then jerry jones walks onto the field and officially becomes the coach. bunch of babies
Owens had 10 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards this year on an underachieving Dallas team. He still has a few good years left in him.
Not that I want him, but would a New York team with both Brett Favre and TO on it be the most media covered team in NFL history?
I think it's a hard call with T.O. His case of the drops has gotten worse, but at the same time he can still make big plays and he's still a beast. In my opinion he's still the most powerful receiver in the league and his attitude isn't as bad as it used to be. Living in Dallas and watching the Cowboys play, I can say without a doubt Jerry Jones is a much bigger detriment to that team than T.O. could ever be.
TO is poison to teams... if the cowboys didnt have him, with romo, barber, williams and ESPECIALLY witten, i would be much more scared to play them... all TO does is make everyone hate eachother.
T.O. gets his own stats, but he doesn't help the team win games, which is exactly why they want to get rid of him. Few teams will want him. He only cares about himself.
This is a great point... look how much progress they made with parcells! Jones got mad and needed a puppet instead of a coach, then they got Phillips and i think we can all agree he doesnt know the first thing about coaching, so now they are stuck with a bunch of good players a bad coach and a crazy owner.
JamaRcus rUssell (6'6" 260 lbs, better then elway) to T.o. (6'3" 218 lbs) best qb-WR combo in nfl. Paul Hackett best qb coach will put fear in defenses everywhere. Raiders 12-4 in 2009 book it.

I was reminded of that thread by the awards, so while I didn't refer back now, I remembered a lot of the good advice there.
