Actually, I have heard this too. There is a good chance he is right for once. Who knows, he may ultimately lead a consortium that buys the Raiders.
They're not a "secretive organization," they are a dysfunctional organization run by a crazy old man that runs around the facilities in his underwear hitting himself in the head with a trout.
Have you heard him talk lately? Can you imagine a conversation between him and Al Davis? That's pretty funny.
Thought he did a great job yesterday. I think a lot of the criticism has more to do with the typical American "that guy's been successful for a long time and I'm sick of him" syndrome. For a lot of people Frank Caliendo is John Madden. I don't see it that way...
Frank Caliendo may not be John Madden, but there's a reason people become caricatures. He's a fun guy, for sure, and he's certainly got a whole lot of football up in that big ol' squash of his. I don't think any earthling would accuse him able to assemble it all properly to manage a professional football club. I'd kill for the opportunity to see him try, though. In today's NFL, you can't celebrate, you can't taunt, and you can hit with gusto. Watching As the Raiders Turn is about all that's left for crazy-good entertainment.
Ummm, no. Madden says the most obvious crap on the planet. "Well the team that scores the most points wins." No, shit. It has nothing to do with him being so successful for so long. Him and Davis would be a real battle of wits.
I don't think he'd be "managing" the Raiders. I think it's Al bringing in someone he trusts and giving up the reins a little. Which even you'd agree would be a good thing from the Raider fan's perspective at this point. Madden isn't Scott Pioli, but neither was Bruce Allen. Allen was more of a glorified PR guy and the Raiders had a lot of success when he was there to serve as a buffer between Al and the coach. That's a role I have no doubt Madden is capable of filling.
That's his style, always has been. It made him the most admired and popular football analyst in the history of the televised sport, and he hasn't changed a bit. You don't have to like his style of communicating to respect his knowledge of the game. The guy is a Hall of Famer.
Just wait till they see who going to be on tom Cable staff. Let me go on the record < I think Sweating to the oldies is great for a very young team. Lets see OC- Ted Tollner 68 Will help with offense as Cable will call all the plays. DC John Marshall 62 - Qb coach - Paul Hackett 61 Dwaine Board 52- Defensive line coach These guys have a wealth of knowledge to coach up a very young team. Okay start the jokes now. Whose more likely to fall asleep in team meetings- raiders coaches or the players. Raiders will eventually have the last laugh. http://www.ibabuzz.com/raidersblog/
Paul "Can't" Hackett is bad news for any team, as are half the people you've mentioned. John Madden will only add fuel and a little screenwriter to the flaming cesspool that is the Oakland organization.
Paul Hackett one of the best QB coaches around . Tom cable will be calling the plays(like he showed down the stretch is pretty good at it) Probably why Saunders didn't take the job. Tollner like Knapp last year will just be helping organizing the practices. J Marshall dc and D Board - were seattle DC and defensive line coach the last couple years. J Madden (if he does come aboard) will not be telling Raiders who to pick in the draft. He might have a pretty good idea who some of the underrated position coaches are and hes a nice bumper betwen the headcoach and Mr Davis.
