Watching the Superbowl reminded me of a player I thought would be a "Total Bust" out of College......but is probably one of the best at his position in the NFL. So admit when you were wrong about a player. It's hard to admit when you're wrong, but I was........thank goodness it doesn't happen too often. Lamar Woodley............I thought he wouldn't be a good NFL player. A lot of Jet fans wanted Woodley and I was against it, big time. BTW, alot of people on this board wanted Karlos Dansby, who's in the Superbowl too. I really liked Dansby. There was a huge contingent of Dansby fans on this board. He could even be a better player, but injuries have slowed his career. Nice to see Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware make a TD in the SuperBowl.........I was a huge fan of Patrick and hope the Jets would look at him, I believe he fell all the way into RD 7, which was crazy. What's your player you thought was Garbage and became a GEM?
Brandon Flowers, and a CB with the Pats, I figured they should have dropped like Brandon Browner, but they seem to have done well I was down on Matt Ryan too, just didn't think he had the skillset
Joe Flacco but I'm still not entirely sold on him. I'll check back in in 5 years when his great defense is no longer or very old and not as effective (Ray Lewis, Chris McAlister, Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott, Ed Reed, Trevor Pryce, Samari Rolle) and we'll see how he is going.
Joe Flacco isn't great. He had a pretty bad year on a good team - but he was a rookie, so I'll give him a few more years before I judge him. Flacco threw 14 TDs to 12 INTs - not exactly great.
Jets picks? um... well here are my picks for Jets busts over the last few years, Bryan Thomas, Vernon Gholston, D-Rob, Brick, and Victor Hobson. Guys who lived up to their billing, Brick is the only one on pace to crack a first round grade of the group. Hobson is barely part of the NFL any more as a second round pick. Thomas is garbage, Gholston hasnt been visible, drob got tossed to the curb for less than a first round pick. So yeah no good ones i have been wrong about in Jets land yet.
I tell you who I thought would bust, and got destroyed in the Super Bowl: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - I don't care about his 4 INTs and he's really nice TD run. He was picked on all season long - he's going to have to become much better in coverage for me to change my mind.
I never thought I'd agree with you, but I would have to say that I knew DRC was fast. Hence his two masterful pass breakups in the Super Bowl, however he was exploited consistently throughout the game because he couldnt press, or be disciplined in zone or man... I think give DRC one more season before branding him a "bust". The same with "Vernon Gholston".
well, DRC has actually been very good this season and still has a ton of upside. yah the superbowl game was rough but it was also rough for all CBs that have played the cards this year including samuels a couple weeks ago. you dont judge people on one game just cause its the super bowl
DRC is very rough around the edges, but he has a ton of talent. I thought he was taken too highly as well, but he's shown flashes of brilliance. Of course, they're interspersed with clips of him getting burned, but you can't label him anything after one year.
GUYS!!!!!!!! Most are talking about Rookies......wrong.............Please give some thought and continue on. I guess you guys missed my point. How can you consider a Rookie, let's give them some time..... DRC, Flacco, Gholston (Even I'm giving him a pass, for one more year).....Too early to judge.
DRC is a bust huh? While he was the starting CB for the Cardinals in the Superbowl he is also a rookie. His problems including pressing can be addressed with coaching and experience. What can not be taught is speed and agility. DRC excels in both categories. Getting burned by a future hall or fame QB such as Rothlisberger or Favre while defending the other team's # 1 WR in your rookie year does not make you a bust. The Cardinals were in that game down the stretch and without DRC there is no way the game wouold have been that close. Give the kid some time and he will be racking up pro bowl appearances.
I'm not labeling him just yet - I just knew he was a drafted too high and he relies way too much on his speed...gambles way too much. I'll give him until year three before my opinion on him is set in stone.
I guess one name that comes to mind is Wes Welker....the guy went undrafted....and has turned out pretty well. Still hate his guts....but can't knock his talent. EDIT: Reason why i mentioned Welker is because i didn't think he would amount to anything more than a glorified kick/punt returner....but the Pats have turned him into a threat that has to be accounted for at all times.
My biggie was Carson Palmer. The struggles his first 3 years w/ USC as well as how many wide open Receivers he had his senior year scared me. Aside from some major injury setbacks..he proved me completely wrong. I was also wrong about Heath Miller who I thought would have major injury problems due to his pre draft workouts revealing a serious back condition. If Gh ever gets on this thread...I hope he mentions Khalif Barnes...who he adamantly called a future bust throughout the entire pre draft process.I gotta bust chops every once in awhile..haha..
GH HATED Barnes. I remember that. I'm so glad Vince Young has turned into a bust though, was right about that. I was down on DRC last year, too. He's starting to change my mind, but he's got time to go. I wish we still had threads with Jabba calling Brian Thomas an animal before the draft. I also didn't think Matty Ryan would have nearly this much success.
Dewayne Bowe - I saw the physical tools, i didn't think he had the technique... oops. I was 1000% right about Matt Ryan.. Ben Rothlisberger too, but I wasn't here to have that statement in writing. April 10th 2004, I knew he was going to win a ring.
