With a little help from clemens supporting cast he will shine and become a great qb for years to come... When he first started it was like the whole team where players from a pop warner pee wee team so even the best players put in this situation would look bad
I can't disagree with you more. I would like it to be true but no way Clemens is the guy. No pocket presence Not very accurate Runs with the ball too much Happy feet in the pocket (line looses where he is) Stairs down his receivers Doesn?t use progression when checking down to WRs Has poor mechanics (side arm) gives the ball a low projectile He is not tall for a NFL QB Now you will say this will all get better with time, yet I say he has too many flaws still showing after three seasons in the NFL. If we are going to take a chance on a QB we should either focus on either Ratliff or Ainge. If we deside not to go with them, then look at Carr or Anderson.
Carr is the guy I'd like this team to take a look at to compete with Kellen and Ratliff. Never had time in Houston, he took a beating
People say Clemens will be good behind our new improved O-line... If that is the case, Carr or Anderson will be Pro-Bowl QBs behind Mangold.
He got to start a grand total of seven fucking games, and yet some posters on here seem to be like Ron Jaworski talking about mechanics and shit. Give me a break. Give the kid a fucking chance behind a decent line.
Last year, he was on his ass more than he was on his feet. Two offensive linemen who started 16 games each are now out of football altogether. It's tough to have pocket presence when there is no damn pocket. Give him a more than a damn second to throw and he'll be fine He didn't have any time to go through a progression. He would have to lock in to a target because if he took any more time, he'd get sacked. There are plenty of QBs out there with worse mechanics, and plenty who are shorter. KC is just as tall as Favre, and has an inch or two on Drew Brees. Dude, he hasn't had 3 seasons, he's had half of one in which he outplayed this year's MVP runner up! KC showed the glimpses in 2007 that you want to see for a first year starter with a decimated receiving corps and awful offensive line. Anderson might be a solid QB, but Carr just sucks. He's done. He will never amount to anything in the NFL. Why would you possibly prefer him to KC?
So I guess in the few games that Ratliff mopped up in the preseason, he had "great mechanics". Man, everyone jumps on these buzzwords when they hear analysts use them on TV. It is just laughable.
I think Anderson has shown he lacks basic NFL fundamentals. He played alright for a little while there but I think his habits of staring down receivers, making bad decisions, and losing his cool run pretty deep.
These are the preseason stats for Ainge, Ratliff & Clemens, who all played against backups. Player .......... Att .. Comp .. Yds .. Comp % . Yds/Att . TD . TD % . INT INT % Long Sck Rating Brett Ratliff .... 47 .. 32 ......499 .... 68.1 ...... 10.6 ..... 4 . 8.5 ..... 1 .... 2.1 .... 71 ..... 1 .... 122.6 Kellen Clemens 38 ... 21 ... 195 .... 55.3 ....... 5.1 ...... 0 .. 0.0 ..... 0 ... 0.0 .... 34 ..... 1 .... 69.5 Erik Ainge ...... 16 ... 10 .... 131 .... 62.5 ...... 8.2 ...... 1 .. 6.3 ..... 0 ... 0.0 ... 39 ..... 4 .... 109.1 Ratliff had a comp% 13% higher than Kellen. Kellen couldn't even get 1 TD and had more playing time. Kellen's passer rating was only half of Ratliffs. Kellen has been in the NFL for 3 years and Ratliff not even one season. There is no doubt that if Ratliff was given half a season to start, Kellen wouldn't even be an after thought. Ainge was a true rookie and didn't even get a 1/3 of Kellens playing time in pre-season had much better stats. Kellen is the 4th best QB on this team. Hopefully Rex who didn't draft Kellen, will have no loyalty to himand allow open competition at QB. Kellen is just like Boller and will do no better. Ratliff has the raw tallent and potential, while Kellen is a polished turd of Mangini.
If not Mark Sanchez, then Clemens should start. Dude had no chance last year, it was remarkable that he did much of anything. With this line, a good run game, very good pass-catching TE, solid receiving options (Cotch/Stuckey/Leon), Clemens can be a good NFL QB. Ryan will probably put him in the same system Flacco was in. Doesn't have to throw 30 times a game, so he can rely on a very solid run game and O-line.
It could be a decent analysis if he was the opening day starter. He wasn't though. He took over a 1-7 team and went 3-4 in those games. When you think about it, thats not too bad.
Kellen has had time to learn on the bench for 1-1/2 seasons, then he was given 8 games to start, then another off season to learn and show something to the coaches to prove he had a hope of buyoing the guy and in the end he showed so little it is a mircle he was still #2 on the depth chart. If anything give him and Ratliff the same number of snaps with 1st team and see who is better. I'm not willing to put the team in the hands of a guy who after 3 seasons is still a HUGE maybe. If an equal competition is held kellen will not even be on the roster come game 1.
no thats my point, i like clemens, i think hes got really good mobility a quick release and pretty good throwing power, i liked him coming out of college too, im saying people are claiming hes garbage because he didnt do well in that stretch on what was a sinking ship. so im saying im all for giving clemens a fair shot if they dont feel another oppertunity presents itself. id still like to see him get a shot.
look if one of the 2 qbs worth drafting with #17 does not fall to us then we should sign leftwich or carr, i'd rather go with carr. he never had a chance in houston. i watched a lot of carr when he was with the texans and he has decent mechanics and a much better release than leftwich. if favre doesnt come back then let one of these 2 battle it out with clemens and ratliff. either way, i think we're going to be relying heavily on our d next year, i hope ryan and pettine can change this d around.
Kellen's case has a little crank on it, and it plays a song. When the song is over he pops out and has a look of confusion, then throws a football where nobody is.
