The difference is that when Moss was traded for a fourth, a lot of people thought he was pretty much done for already. Plus it was the Raiders who gave him up, and theyre retards. Same with TO, somewhat on the backside of his career, and he comes with tons of baggage. For the most part these guys were traded for lower draft picks because they were older, and their old teams had gotten sick of them. Edwards has apparently been somewhat of a pain in the ass in Cleveland, but hes still a young talented guy.
Notice who isn't on that list? Fitzgerald who never drops anything, Boldin and Andre Johnson and that is why they are a few of the only receivers worth a 1st round pick. Remember, you are getting somebody with mileage on them and a contract and that is why teams never can get a 1st.
Not doubting the young and talented part, but if Edwards has baggage with him already, I still can't justify the 1st rd pick...of course my opinion only.
Oh don't get me wrong, im not convinced either. Ive gotten the impression that hes a little bit too hollywood, thinks hes a very big deal. Hes talented, but hes not the best, and Im not sure if hes a guy who will put in the work. If your going to have that me first attitude, you at least better be one of the very, very best, and I don't think hes quite on that level. Id trade a second rounder for him in a heartbeat, hes good enough to be worth the risk. But as for a first rounder, I think Id rather take my chances with Jeremy Maclin or Percy Harvin.
I was comparing there hands, that's it. It was also partly tongue and cheek. Obviously Edwards is a much better receiver than B. Smith. Anyway, back to those drop numbers ... here are the dropped passes leaders from '07 and '08 with there number of receptions ordered by number of receptions per drop. Bias and ignorance to a high degree? Sheesh, a little harsh don't ya think? The guy had one great season, which means he can have more of those as long as he isn't in sh1t hole Cleveland. He has all the attributes to be an Elite WR in the league, he just needs out of Cleveland and some focus, which I think will come with a change of scenery.
Edwards doesn't come with the baggage that those guys did. And he's younger. I'd consider it, we definitely need a true #1 and I think Edwards was a product of awful QB play this season. When Anderson played well 2 years ago, he was arguably the best WR in the NFL. I'd rather trade our 1st for Bolden if he's available though.
Yes but look at the other guys on the 2008 list. Colston, Bowe, TO, Marshall, Johnson, White, Moss, and Jennings are all elite receivers. And by the way, I don't remember Coles dropping that many balls.
I think the Jets need secondary help before drafting or trading for a WR. Especially if Ryan plans on blitzing alot.
^^^ I know, I agreed with the guy earlier who said he would take any of the top 10 on the drops list. Then I realized you have to compare to number of receptions. Edwards kinda stands out like a sore thumb in that department, especially in '08. 3.5 receptions/Drop is pretty bad.
Sorry but Braylon Edwards is not better than Calvin Johnson. That guy had a monster year, beating almost constant double teams, even after Williams left, and did it all on a winless team. He is only going to get better with some help to take some heat off of him.
I would..he is yound and very talented..his weakness is his catching which can be coached...his advantages are his size and speed and athleticism and upside...if coaches drill it into his head to watch the ball into his hands he can be the true number 1 he is capable of
A 1st is insane. I'd think a 3rd is more like it given how badly he stunk it up last season. Edwards led the NFL in dropped passes.
So they each had a monster year... I would say they are equal, but Edwards experience gives him a slight edge. You wouldn't really go wrong with either one... but I feel that Edwards would get the #1 spot over CJ at least at this point int heir careers.
Hell no. I'd give a first for CJ without thinking, not so much for Edwards. I'd give a 3rd, maybe a 2nd for Edwards.
Ok, fair enough, but only one of them is going to possibly be traded this season, and I seriously doubt the Lions would trade CJ for anything at this point. So out of hypothetical available options we're looking at Ocho Cinco and B. Edwards... not sure about anyone else...oh Boldin, who I would take in a heartbeat over Ocho and Edwards but I find it very hard to believe that AZ won't lock him up.
