Silly comment. The Ravens have had a top defense for the last decade. We have essentially taken their defensive coaching staff and brought them to the Jets. With regard to our defense, this is the best scenario possible. Pettine's not on Wikipedia? Big deal!
Pettine is a good coach, and I'm not sure if this is a positive or negative, but he was destined to follow Mike Smith, Jack Del Rio, Mike Singletary, and Marvin Lewis - all former Baltimore linebacking coaches.
I read on a Baltimore Blog that he is good but has made some mistakes and that it is good Ryan will be calling the defensive plays. (Of course that is just from a fan but one that seemed knowledgable).
Singletary just fired him because he is not a run oriented OC, why would the Jets hire someone who is not run oriented? when that is exactly what we are trying to become a smash mouth running football team.
ryan was very upbeat about bringin pettine with him to run the show on D. said he leaned on him a lot. he won't have to coach this coach. they'll be on the same page from day 1 which is a great start to 09. anyone's an improvement over sutton but I really like this move to stay cohesive with ryans new schemes
