Well, since the Mangini Jets seemed to make nothing but mistakes playing defense at 20 mph, I'll take that style of play in a heartbeat.
With the way Ryan was talking today about his defense (especially at home) they could use Section 227's avatar and quote as the defense's Mission Statement.
This guy reminds me of a young Bill Parcells for some reason. He seems to have the "IT" factor that Mangini lacked (too busy chewing gum with his blank stare). Hopefully our defense will be a force to reckon with that will constantly keep Pennington, Edwards, Brady/Cassell, and any other QB on there backs.
He is a real good listen. I sat in my driveway in my car listening to him on the Francesa show. My wife and kids are looking at me from the window like I'm nuts just sitting in my car smiling for 22 minutes...
I hope he brings everything he says to the team, but would be happy with half. He had more excitement in his pinky during that press release today, than Mangini could scrape together in three years of sitting on the sideline.
i didnt hear the press conference but did hear a replay of him with mike this afternoon and i must say i am VERY happy right now. he touched on a few key points for me including intensity and he really said alot without saying anything at all about favre, i really didnt get the feeling he was interested in him coming back... although he really said nothing what he did say and how he said it spoke volumes to me about favre.
I liked this guy with his opening statement. "With all these cameras and press here I was half expecting to see our new president.- (mild laughter)- never mind I guess we'll be meeting him next year........" Love it. Lets be the high energy defensive killers I've always dreamed about since our healthy New York Sack Exchange!
Ryan is definitely charismatic and seems to have a good sense of humor. It's obvious why guys like playing for this man. And it's so refreshing to have somebody respond to questions with honesty and some life as opposed to the robotic gobbley-gook we got from Mangini every week. Seriously, you could have taken a bunch of say-nothing quotes ("we played hard", "players have to execute"), randomly mixed them up and that would have been Mangini's entire year of press conferences. Man am I glad that's over.
When the Jets D plays physical, it's up there with Pittsburgh, and Baltimore's Defenses as the best! I hope we see physical play this season!
