I thought since there is no collective bargaining agreement in place for 2010 that contracts cannot be reworked to change the cap until another agreement is in place? I could be wrong.
Haha , or maybe because hes a winner....he does look fat though , still take him in a heartbeat though.
We need NT dedpth. Pouha sucked. When Jenkins got hurt and the double and triple teams stopped, our entire D went south. Without run stopping we were doomed. One thing the Ravens did very well Sunday was stop the run.
nm............................it's only 3.5 million instead of 5...shoot me. While your at it tell me where the money is coming from to sign Baltimore's FAs too. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary09.html
I agree , unless theres a second miricle at the meadowlands , we are screwed , cap wise this year , 3.5 / 5 does it really matter ?
Backloaded deals. The Jets need to clear enough room to cover rookies and signing bonuses, and the rest can be pushed back to when the cap expires.
The bigger thing is that they want to keep Favre. How many contracts can they possibly restructure to do that and sign their draftees?
There is no doubt in my mind Woody made a good choice hiring Ryan. Of course it wouldn't hurt if Woody spent 1/2 a day less vacationing and actually met with Cowher, who was by far the best HC available, but that's history. I remember 3 years ago we heard a lot of good things about Mangini. Been with Belichik for 10 years, knows all his schemes, respected by players, all the good stuff, just like Belichik himself was to Parcells. And I still think Mangini has these qualities. But when you are first time HC, sometimes it takes a few years to become legit SB contenders. Will Ryan get a fair chance? It takes time to make the team into legit contender and it does take HC experience. Does anyone know the stats on how many first time HC won SB in first 3 years vs how many experienced coaches (more than 3 years) won it? Ryan is not Bill Belichik, and even Bill had to get extremely lucky with Brady (darn the Jets for injuring Bledsaw) to make NE contenders after he went 5-11 in his first season. Being optimistic is all good, but you gotta look 3 years back to realize this is the same situation right now. The difference is Mangini got 4 win team, Ryan gets 9 win team. I hope he can build on that, but that's certainly not an easy task, especially for first time HC.
I believe that if Ryan were to have the exact same first 3 years that Mangini had he would still be kept and the reason is that he won't be hated by almost everybody in town the way Mangini was. Personality goes a long way in NY. Especially with the media.
So far as I can tell 9 of the last 10 listed players were not on the 52 man roster at the end of the year. That's a lot of money to drop off when they're cut in or before camp.
In fact, these guys could be cut and save some money: Favre, Brett QB $13,000,000 Moore, Brandon G $5,461,187 Barrett, David CB $3,710,000 Bowens, David LB $2,600,000 Baker, Chris TE $2,100,000 Pouha, Sione DT $500,000 Kassell, Brad LB $620,000 Smith, Eric S $530,000 Hunter, Wayne T $627,280 Coleman, Drew CB $530,000 Herron, Noah RB $542,280 Brown, Kareem DT $467,280 Hodges, Reggie P $460,000 Ihedigbo, James S $392,280 Mason, Marcus RB $392,280 Woodhead, Danny RB $384,332 Caulcrick, Jehuu RB $317,280 Cummings, Kenwin LB $317,280 Daniels, Stanley G $317,280 Henry, Marcus WR $317,280 Pitoitua, Ropati DT $317,280 Renkart, Brandon LB $317,280 Schaefering, Brian DT $317,280 Whittaker, Huey WR $317,280 That's a total saving of $34,855,159 leaving us $18,271,034 or so under the cap. Moore may be restructured rather than cut, but I can't see them giving him $5m unless they have no other realistic choice.
If everyone drops off we are still over and they still have to be replaced at the same league minimum salary.
Not really. Mangini was a DC for ONE year and the Pats players considered him a bit conservative on defense and they had to change things as they went - He was NOT highly respected and considered a "Mad Scientist" and didn't come with these reviews like Rex.... Maybe some people were just as confident in Mangini - Put it this way I was JUST AS HOPEFUL - But, Confident?????? No way - Mangini was a Ball boy who accomplished nothing yet who also had to install a 3-4 defense and change players over.. Rex is HIGHLY accomplished already and already has the pieces for the 3-4.. I credit Mangini a ton for assembling a some good talent and some overall good Players but, now it's time ofr a real man to COACH them up and ATTACK Qb's!!!!! Man, it kills me how people pretend this the same old... yeah, coaches fail and Rex can go any which way like hundreds of other respected coaches.. BUT, this is NOT Herm Edwards or Mangini.... This guy COACHES circles around both of those guys and is actually the perfect COMBO of those guys... He's the Coach players love Like Herm (NOT Mangini) And he's the Book Smart "Football Guy" like Mangini (NOT Herm) - Though Mangini has yet to prove he can apply the book smarts to the field.
Of course, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for manoeuvre. Particularly with guys like Barrett, Bowens, Moore, Favre and Baker.
I'd bet my house that Rex could not have the "exact" 3 years - I don't think that collapse could happen the same way becasue I don't think Rex would ever sit back and let mediocre QB's pick his defense apart while rushing 3 guys with no imagination like we saw the last 5 weeks.... THAT is what doomed Mangini BEING PASSIVE -on the field and off. Rex might have his own problems and that lokks like it could be QB and injuries - remember Mangini's teams were remarkably healthy, another reason he had little excuse to drop an egg like he did.
The problem obviously is Favre. If he comes back and they say they want him back we will be about 20 million over once the draftees are signed. I have no idea where that money is coming off from.
Wow, some significant changes since the last time I looked at that. Most notably, the Kerry Rhodes bonus is way more than originally listed. He misses the increase in the salary cap there though, which will be at least $3 million. There's no way Rhodes should be making over $10 million in '09. No way. Ed Reed doesn't make that much in the best year of his current contract.
