Not his year in Miami but throw out those Minny #s. meaningless, they padded stats against weak NFC Cent/north teams. They could never do anything when it mattered. The #s don't support me in this argument but I always rooted for Minny and I saw alot of their games. I dind't like Linehan as a playcaller and his O's never did anythig in big games/big spots.
As a general rule avoid any and all coordinators who ever got to work with Randy Moss, as it greatly inflates their credibility. It would be somewhat unfair to grade Linehan on the job he did in Miami with Gus Frerotte as his primary signal caller, but he's no one to get excited about. I have also heard Hue Jackson's name bandied about, and he's another one that's somewhat questionable, as he's been in a slew of bad situations throughout his career. As much as I hate Schottenheimer, I don't know that any of these replacement candidates would represent a marked improvement. -X-
true. schottenheimer was not the one who ran the draw play 4 times at the goal line when you have dustin keller, bubba franks, and chris baker all potential redzone threats. mangini put the handcuffs on the OC play calling for three seasons. perhaps it was due to the age of schottenheimer, lack of trust from the front office, or the ultra-conservative nature of mangini. look at pennington when he was let loose by Sparano in Miami. where were the critics then when he was throwing deep to Ginn? I didnt see the 5 yard slants and outs that were "characterisitic" of Pennington's play style in New York. And this season was very much the same. Brett Favre was throwing short all season. Most of his passes 20 yards and more were interceptions. I'll keep Schottenheimer.
Linehan stinks, I'd sadly enough rather keep Scottenheimer. Likes to go with the pass a little too much. He was an awful head coach but overhyped OC in both MIN and MIA(In his 1 year)
When have Schittenheimer's offenses done anything in big games/big spots? And you mean to tell me you like BS' play-calling?!
I do like his playcalling, I didn't like the execution. '07 he gets a pass b/c of the OL, '06 our O was good espcially considering we had no running game. In '08 the O wasn't as good as it should have been but that had more to do w/ the QB that he was given a month before the season started. I am very comfortable w/ Brian running our O.
Right but based on your logic the 06 offense was null and void because our division was weak. How can you give BS a pass for having a weak oline but not give Linehan's offense credibility for being top ranked in the league? Number's dont lie, we've never had a dynamic offense with BS as OC. In 06 the shifts/motions crap was figured out by seasons end but lucky for us the D stepped up big time and got us to the playoffs. I also don't see how abandoning the run is lack of execution. That is lack of good playcalling my friend.
He had the best WR in the game in Minny, we had 2 rookies on the OL and Kevan Barlow as our starting RB. We also had Chad coming off 2 shoulder surgeries. You can't run 70% of the time, maybe we passed a few more times than we should have but that came down from the top. I don't blame him for that. I like the way he calls a game. The problem w/ fans is if we run on 3rd and 1 and get stuffed everyone complains "why didn't we throw?" then if we pass on 3rd and 1 and miss they complain "why didn't we run?".
We've had this discussion before. I don't speak for other fans, but my problem with the 3 straight goalline runs vs NE week 2 is that he ran it at the same spot all three times. How about a pitch, counter, or off-tackle? That's BS' problem in a nutshell. OK. But in 2007 those 2 were no longer rookies, and we had Thomas Jones and CP had played a full season after the 2 surgeries so what's the excuse there? BS couldn't adjust to the NFL after the NFL adjusted to him.
I lived in the People's Republic of Minnesota when he was OC. Let me tell you folks, he managed one of the most entertaining and productive offenses I've ever watched. He made dipshit Culpepper look legit. The team didn't win anything big because 1) the head coach was a meathead (Mike Tice) and the defense was garbage at that time. I wish to Rochambeau any fucknut that prefers Schitty to Linehan as OC. You too Woody.
Reminds me of the Cam Cameron situation which is what worked in Baltimore. Either way I'd like to see him or Callahan stay on so someone on the staff has head coaching experience.
Those rookies regressed and te Ol was brutal w/ a terrible LG and RT, Chad got hurt in week 1 and played the rest of the year w/ 2 torn ligaments in his ankle and had no running game to open up the pass game.
I would welcome Linehan as OC. I think he's one o fthe better OCs out there right now. I'm not opposed to Shotty getting another chance either, but I think I'd rather see Linehan take the position.
