My obvious bias aside, I think the Ravens will resign Suggs, Scott, and Lewis. Lewis/Suggs we can afford with Boller, McAlister, and possibly McGahee coming off the books, and Scott could definitely get the franchise tag. If anyone is to leave, though, it'll definitely be Scott over Suggs and Ray.
I Think if all goes good and we get under the cap we should definately sign one of them i know rex would want to. Either one would be fine with me but Ray Lewis despite his age could be a big force with us along side david harris but you cant go wrong with Suggs blazing through the line actually sacking QB's unlike thomas or ghoston.
Cory Ivy is the only one on that list that I can see us making a run at. Ray Lewis is always going to be a Raven. Suggs is a lock at Baltimore. Bart Scott, is a reach. I would like to see us grab Landry and Ivy from Baltimore. And Koch could be a significant upgrade to Hodges, however Hodges still has seasons left on his contract.
I'd pay you take take Ivy... Landry is one of our top safeties, meaning that the FO would likely take him over Leonhard, even though they'll make every effort to lock up both. Edwards, Ivy, Wilcox, and Boller are all expendable if you want any of them... I do, however, imagine that we'll lose one guy this offseason that we would prefer to keep.
With all of the defensive free agents, I just don't see the Ravens being able to bring back Scott, Lewis and Suggs. that is just so much money plugged into a single position. I think we have a real shot at Scott and Jim Leonhard. Leonhard has been every where for the last few weeks, and I think he would love to follow Rex to NY, Scott would be more expensive, but he certainly is not unrealistic with certain cap casualties certain to come over the next couple of months.
Be warned, though, Leo is a bit of a gadget player. Ironically enough, he works well only in an exotic defense like Ryan runs, but you can't count on him to really cover the pass or read a quarterback. That being said, with Ryan leading your team, Leonhard can be utilized very effectively blitzing, covering the run, and baiting quarterbacks. He was a luxury for us, but it'll still hurt losing him.
Suggs will command top dollar....as in.....one of the top 3 FA's available. Tanny would have to work some serious "cap management" to even consider making a run at him.
I want Dawan Landry and maybe Bart Scott. Landry is a must though IMO, we need to sure up the 2nd safety spot.
Take Leo, because I can't see Landry leaving. The Ravens have safety depth, but they're rookies, and Dawan won't be allowed to leave simply because we don't have many other options. If push comes to shove, Leonhard will get the short end.
Man, that guy looked great yesterday! You don't seem too concerned with his possible departure. Any reason we should know?
I agree with you on Leonard. I just dont see him being good outside the Ravens system with those players helping him. The only reason I would want to take a shot at him is because Rex Ryan is our HC now. Like I said though I dont see the Ravens bringing back Bart Scott simply because there going to have to pay Landry, Lewis, and probably franchise Suggs. But I wouldnt be opposed to trading up in the draft (something Tanny has shown he likes to do) and drafting Mauluaga to play 3-4 ILB with Harris.
Make no mistake, Leo has been absolutely great for us, but he is a gadget type player that really only thrives because you have guys like Ngata, Suggs, Lewis, and Scott blowing up the line, and Reed backing him up. Jimmy remains a physically small player, as is evidenced by the fact that he knocked himself out last week trying to dislodge a ball. I wouldn't say that he's necessarily bad at protecting the pass, but he is no Landry/Reed. If Ryan tries to implement some exotic packages in your defense, then Leo would be a perfect player, but you'd need increased production from nearly every player on your squad.
^thanks for the info:beer: By that definition, we already have (had) that guy on our team in Hank Poteat. He does look faster on those returns though.
Corey Ivy is a cornerback, not a safety. He'd be a solid depth player, but he's definitely not a starter. Ivy would be a nice pick if we cut Barrett and lose Law and/or Poteat.
Jim Leonhard will certainly fill the void that we've had at 'overrated role-player who benefited from elite roster' since Damien Robinson left.
