With the signing of Anthtony Clements its almost a lock they will take Woilliams or Hawk at 4 ot slide down a spot or 2 and take Hawk because Williams will go. They get there O tackle latter in the 1st or 3rds. Young goes to Titans, Culter to Packers, Leinart falls to Raiders at 7. Ferguson goes to Saints at 2. Everything is playing out.

nope looks like clements is more a depth signing.. plus he is RT..if we sign pearson now before the draft than that rules out D brick.

I think they are just trying to have a good position in the draft. They don't have a position now where they have to take a player just because they have noone else for that position. With the signing of Clements they can take the BPA and don't have to go straight for a tackle, because they wouldn't have anyone who could play RT

Thats the point i was trying to make. There are plent of O Tackles in the middle rds which they can get and turn into starters down the road. Remember the Pats won 2 of there Super Bowls with 3rd string linemen paying because odf injuries. Hawk or Williams are the choices with a slim but small chance of Cutler if they trade down.

Clements started 4 games at left tackle so maybe they move Jones back to the rt side wear he belongs. Clements is a big boy 335lbs. He will hold the fort until thye groom somebody.

There is no way I see us taking Williams or Hawk.

Williams doesn't fit at a 3-4 end, and we signed more linebackers than you could know

Is calling someone a "journeyman offensive lineman" a polite way of saying "he sucks"?

Williams absolutely fits at 3-4 end ... no idea why you would think he wouldn't.

The Clement signing will have no bearing on our draft.

Again this signing has no effect on the draft. As a GM it is your job to go into the draft with every postion on your team filled this way when the draft plays out you have the option of drafting the best player available. All this means is the Jets don't have to draft a RT early in the draft but they ceratainly still can if a player they like is there.

I disagree this is the move so they can get Hawk or Williams. The linemen will be gotten latter.

How can you say Williams doesn't fit the 3-4 End?

He is 6'7", basically 300 pounds, and runs a 4.6

He is basically, IMO, a tad smaller, but more athletic Richard Seymour. This guywould play very nicely in a 3-4 defense. I have always compared him to Richard because I think he could be dominant in the 3-4...

Exactly! It is a waste to use a pick and a waste of money to sign a guy that talented to hold up blockers so that the linebackers can make the play. That is what an end in a 3-4 primarily does.

Hawk would be a better pick...but if Leinarts there...

I second that penny, I couldn't believe he said that williams doesn't fit the 3-4.
I want us to take williams and then see how the rest of the draft falls into place.

The Sporting News ranked Clemens as the 26th best free agent OT. Jason Fabini and Scott Gragg were ranked way higher. Yes, he sucks.

I dont really get how signing a mediocre RT means we wont take a superstar LT at 4 when signing Chatham, Cassell, and Von Oelhoffen, all legit possible starters, wouldnt preclude us from taking Mario or Hawk. I feel like its wishful thinking by the Mario lovers that this signing will have more bearing on the draft than the big signings we made that actually addressed DE and LB to some extent. Instead I think that they are just trying to get depth at every position of need, so that they can draft BPA. People who see this particular move as more important than others just because its almost the same position as someone they dont want us to draft need to pay more attention to the offseason as a whole
