Espn 2 is about to run Jets.browns game of 86....... cant wait to watch it again right now...lol jesus
But yet the Jets have their own youtube video dedicated to their fuckups. Know why? Roger Vick Johnny "Lam" Jones Blair Thomas Ken O'Brien etc.etc.etc
I was able to watch the second half of the Jets /Browns Div Playoff. I reverted to being a teen again. Just the raw up and down of emotion of that game could have killed a man. Too bad they couldn't do anything to win. Joe Walton was quoted during the program as saying he "didn't want to anything stupid on offense to lose the ballgame" because "the defense was playing well". Damn you Joe Walton!!!!
We have been pretty good as of late drafting talent but that "Ghost"on over Mayo was a killer, Gholston doesn't look like he will ever be good, No motivation or pure football skills.
Yes but it was weed not nose candy. Maybe it was rumor started by the NYJs due to the uproar that occurred after we drafted that other QB then pretty boy Marino. The excuse to draft O'Brien put out by the NYJs was that Oakland desired him so they drafted him to keep him away from Oak
Ken O'Brien was not a fuckup. He was a good QB. Everyone keeps comparing him to Marino....he was the third best QB drafted that year behind Elway and Marino. Not too bad for the 26th pick. And as I said, other teams can lay claim to bad drafts just as bad as the Jets. Problem is the Jets play in the media capital of the world, so their mistakes are in a bigger light. How about other teams?.... Name the teams that picked up these turkeys.... Brian Bosworth Todd Marinovich Tony Mandarich Todd Blackledge (drafted before Marino AND O'Brien) etc.....
Every team makes draft mistakes for sure. But the Jets have a special way of really making it count. For example, not only did they draft O'Brien ahead of Marino, but they also drated a RB (Blair Thomas) ahead of Emmit Smith, and a WR (Al Toon) ahead of Jerry Rice. Marinoe, Rice and Smith basically rewrote the record books during their respective careers. O'Brien, Toon and Thomas...not so much Also this year's pick of Gholston over Mayo is going to be equally laughable. For me there were many heartbreaking moments, but Vinny's achilles in 1999 really stands out. There was so much expectation and excitement, and it was gone just like that. I felt like the entire season was stolen from me.
The rumor was out long before the draft. It was not concocted by the Jets it is the reason so many others also passed on him - and O'brien was not the worst Qb (Tony Eason) taken before Marino. And it was Coke "The Steelers passed on Pitt QB Dan Marino in the 1983 draft because they thought he was a big drug addict." Even if the rumors of Marino's rampant cocaine binges in Oakland are true , the Steelers and a bunch of other teams passed on Marino because he was not projected as a great NFL quarterback.
Damn, now you are mad they drafted Toon? Only one of the best Jet WRs ever. If it wasn't for the concussions, he would have had some impressive numbers. And you are comparing three Hall of Fame picks against what? Sorry, this is not a fair comparison.
1985 Draft, as you can see, many teams passed on Rice.....how about KC drafting Ethan Horton instead of Rice? 1 Buffalo Bills Bruce Smith Defensive End Virginia Tech 2 Atlanta Falcons Bill Fralic Guard Pittsburgh 3 Houston Oilers Ray Childress Defensive Tackle Texas A&M 4 Minnesota Vikings Chris Doleman Defensive End Pittsburgh 5 Indianapolis Colts Duane Bickett Outside Linebacker USC 6 Detroit Lions Lomas Brown Offensive Tackle Florida 7 Green Bay Packers Ken Ruettgers Offensive Tackle USC 8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ron Holmes Defensive End Washington 9 Philadelphia Eagles Kevin Allen Offensive Tackle Indiana 10 New York Jets Al Toon Wide Receiver Wisconsin 11 Houston Oilers Richard Johnson Cornerback Wisconsin 12 San Diego Chargers Jim Lachey Offensive Tackle Ohio State 13 Cincinnati Bengals Eddie Brown Wide Receiver Miami 14 Buffalo Bills Derrick Burroughs Cornerback Memphis 15 Kansas City Chiefs Ethan Horton Tight End North Carolina 16 San Francisco 49ers Jerry Rice Wide Receiver Mississippi Valley State 17 Dallas Cowboys Kevin Brooks Defensive End Michigan 18 St. Louis Cardinals Freddie Joe Nunn Outside Linebacker Mississippi 19 New York Giants George Adams Running back Kentucky 20 Pittsburgh Steelers Darryl Sims Defensive End Wisconsin 21 Los Angeles Rams Jerry Gray Cornerback Texas 22 Chicago Bears William Perry Defensive Tackle Clemson 23 Los Angeles Raiders Jessie Hester Wide Receiver Florida State 24 New Orleans Saints Alvin Toles Linebacker Tennessee 25 Cincinnati Bengals Emanuel King Outside Linebacker Alabama 26 Denver Broncos Steve Sewell Running Back Oklahoma 27 Miami Dolphins Lorenzo Hampton Running Back Florida 28 New England Patriots Trevor Matich Center BYU 0 Cleveland Browns (Supplemental Draft) Bernie Kosar Quarterback Miami (FL)
Now let's review the Emmit Smith selection year....Jets select Blair Thomas, just as bad as Cincinnati taking another Penn State bust, KiJana Carter a few years later. This was a bad pick, turned out to be a major bust, but the draft itself was not a total failure, note the last supplemental pick, a quality starter for many years for the Jets. Also note other teams could claim they failed here as well, what about Jeff George at #1? 1 Indianapolis Colts Jeff George Quarterback Illinois 2 New York Jets Blair Thomas Running Back Penn State 3 Seattle Seahawks Cortez Kennedy Defensive Tackle Miami 4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Keith McCants Linebacker Alabama 5 San Diego Chargers Junior Seau Linebacker USC 6 Chicago Bears Mark Carrier Defensive Back USC 7 Detroit Lions Andre Ware [2] Quarterback Houston 8 New England Patriots Chris Singleton Linebacker Arizona 9 Miami Dolphins Richmond Webb Tackle Texas A&M 10 New England Patriots Ray Agnew Defensive End NC State 11 Los Angeles Raiders Anthony Smith Defensive End Arizona 12 Cincinnati Bengals James Francis Linebacker Baylor 13 Kansas City Chiefs Percy Snow Linebacker Michigan State 14 New Orleans Saints Renaldo Turnbull Defensive End West Virginia 15 Houston Oilers Lamar Lathon Linebacker Houston 16 Buffalo Bills James Williams Defensive Back Fresno State 17 Dallas Cowboys Emmitt Smith Running Back Florida 18 Green Bay Packers Tony Bennett Linebacker Mississippi 19 Green Bay Packers Darrell Thompson Running Back Minnesota 20 Atlanta Falcons Steve Broussard Running Back Washington State 21 Pittsburgh Steelers Eric Green Tight End Liberty 22 Philadelphia Eagles Ben Smith Defensive Back Georgia 23 Los Angeles Rams Bern Brostek Center Washington 24 New York Giants Rodney Hampton Running Back Georgia 25 San Francisco 49ers Dexter Carter Running Back Florida State 0 New York Jets (Supplemental Draft) Rob Moore Wide Receiver Syracuse In the late rounds, the Jets picked up decent depth in Roger Duffy at Center and Terrence Mathis at WR.
I grew up and played high school hoops with him, he had a twin brother who was also a star LB at Arizona. He played 4 years with the Pats and 4 with Miami. In 1993 he appeared in 17 regular season games--started the year with New England, got cut mid-week, picked up by Miami and played the following week, never had a bye week. That has to at least tie a record.
i had tivo'd this (the 2x OT loss) and caught up with it tonite. yes cowher is a browns coach and gets some airtime too. re the game, i think either my recording missed a flea flicker TD described later in the broadcast or it wasnt included. besides that the presentation was pretty good too. if you can stomach it, its a good watch. i watched thru the gastineau gaffe and couldnt take it any more. brought back the same sickening feeling as that day. at that point they also started describing the crowd coming to life and the level of hate for the jets and of course 99. i just deleted the damn thing at this point as we know the ending.
