I wonder if they will give Westhoff or Shotty a chance and then go after Cowher again next year. If they still want Cowher no reason to commit to a big name.

That's not a bad thing as long as he doesn't go all Jim Mora or Denny Green on them.

I would rather have Westoff over Spags.

All the vets on this board seem to be against the move. Badge, SJ, Alio, etc. But what's not to like about this guy? His age? We had no problem hiring the youngest coach to be HC. But there's a prob w/ hiring a 60 yr. old man who has tons of experience?

It wont be fair to compare Westoff to Joe Pa, b/c Paterno is a rare breed. It's unthinkable how a damn near 80 yr old man can coach a 60-man football team. But there are some similarities. Both are highly respected and players want to play for them. Isnt that what it all boils down to? You can be an X's/O's master and have an eye for the best talent in the world but if you don't have the respect of your players or be able to motivate them, then you're just another coach who's in way over their head.

Westoff definitely deserves at least an interview. And i hope Woody puts age and health concerns aside and then asks himself "is Westoff the best man for the job."

Oh yeah, absolutely. Gansz was a disgrace as a head coach. The Chiefs got rid of him after only two years as the head coach. Marty Schottenheimer took over in 1989.

Last night I was noting a few head coaches who had been special teams coaches. Some have been good and some have been bad.

    Re: your sig

Do you think Marvin Lewis would be available?

I don't think the cheap ass Bengals would fire Lewis at this time.

I'd love to have Spag, Ryan or Westhoff. I think I would want Westhoff the most.

If Cowher wanted to coach the Jets he would be doing it already. We're not getting him.

I'm a very big fan of Westhoff, and think he definitely deserves a good look.

I love the idea of Westhoff as a head coach but one problem...The man cant even shit on his own....Imagine him with his cane up and down. They need to purchase him a hi tech chair with Jets colors on it.

Like that...but the different color scheme

Westy would be okay, but as far as Woody is concerned... I think he wants a sexy name with a family pedigree, and Ryan fits that the best. (Regardless if it is the best choice.)

I wouldn't be opposed to Westy as coach. In fact I've stated it several times. Can he do the job? Who the hell knows. He'll need good coordinators, but if anyone can get guys to move, he's the guy. Right now, that's what we need. That was the appeal of getting Cowher: he can get guys to move.

So all the talk seems to be about Ryan, Spags and Schott Jr. right now. Does anyone know if Westhoff might actually get an interview? I'm not saying that I necessarily prefer him to the current frontrunners, but I'm curious if he's going to get any consideration at all.
