I like the move the FO did with Chris Baker. This guy has tons of talent but wasnt developed right. Shottenheimer developed a good TE in Gates in SD. Watch Baker develop into an important cog of our offense.
chris baker is very talented. he will do fine as long as he comes back from his injury at 100 percent. depending on the role the te plays in our new offense he could be a game changer. i have always thought a great te makes a team 10 times better. often overlooked position.
As much as I hate the Fins, I don't think Baker will ever be as good as McMichael. But then again McMichael is a very talented TE.
I don't see that at all. When I saw him last year (although limited) he a solid blocker with decent hands. Also he is a LSer. I think he has a huge upside. Eventually I see hiim as a starter.
I hate how everyone thinks if a coach comes from a place with a good skills position player they think we're going to turn them into the next Kellen Winslow or Lawrence Taylor. Coaching only goes so far, they need to have some natural skill and football smarts. While Baker has some talent, he needs to improve as a blocker and learn to catch more balls while moving. As far as Dreessen goes he has good hands, but he often gets called for holding (two or three times last year in limited action). He blocks too high and gets under the pads which will get called every time.
If he stays healthy this year I agree he could breakout...I am sure Brian Schott will emphasize using the TE.
Shottenheimer coached quarterbacks at SD, he had nothing to do with Gates. I do agree, however that is was a good re-sign..
baker is slow as shit....hes a pretty good blocker, but he'll never get to the level that gates, shockey, or even crumpler have gotten too. ( i know there are a bunch of other good TE but i dont have time to list everyone with more potential then baker or jolly)
I agree with you! DUH HERM screwed up that kid. Now he will have a real HC and OC and he will develop!
I agree that Baker was an excellent re-signing. Due mainly to the fact that I think the CS wants to keep the zone blocking scheme and want some cohesion in the blocking ranks for it. He's got nice hands, most of the time, maybe Mangini and Lil Schott can make him into something more than the last guys could.
He also has to learn to hold onto the ball when running in the open field. I saw more than two occurences when he was running and someone came from behind and punched the ball out of his grasp causing fumbles. He should call Tiki Barber and get some lessons.
I wanted Leonard Pope really bad, I was not a fan of the Chris Baker resigning. I really think Pope is going to be a beast..........
