Rumour has it his gum chewing skills and lack of emotion won them over in Cleveland.

He supposedly has these great practice sessions, yet when it counts the most he can never get his players ready. I'm sick of his indept playcalling, too.

Yea, just heard about the Rob Ryan thing.

Sick. Mangini tries to get him all 3 years he was coaching here, and as soon as he leaves he gets him. Jets luck? Bet they're just considered 2 shitty coaches on here anyway...

We heard alot of good things about Daboll when he was hired too. Don't know much about him beyond that.

Brian DaBoll will forever be known as the guy to get his buns slapped by Bubba(Brett Favre). Probably his coaching highlight thus far, lord knows what he's done with the QBs on this team.

Rob Ryan's defenses have been pathetic the past 2 seasons in Oakland. I'd rather pass.

The Raiders have been pathetic for about 6 years now.

I don't really care because he's not our coach...but I think Ryan can coach.

    Plus, we did pass.

Ryan was under contract, nothing more, nothing less. and now that contract is expired. that doesn't reflect anything on the Jets.

Yea, I know. I just wanted to get into the swing of being a poster here during the offseason. I thought it'd be "fun."

My real question is why didn't we just hire Ryan and keep Mangini instead of having to go through the BS of a HC hunt AGAIN? Was 9-7 in '08 really that devastating to everyone? Were/are we really that far away or something?

Iunno. Just something to ponder. I file it under "don't care" but it does seem like an awful waste of time.

    Folks,
Like it or not there is a large lesson to be learned by all who called for Mangini's head. The lesson will take 2 years to learn, but many here who wished Eric booted out the door will have a large serving of crow layed before them.

The first thing all should take note of is, Mangini was the first coach fired even before the guy in Detroit if I recall correctly. Then most importantly he now becomes the first to be given a job before all the so call favorites. You may not think so now, but this is a huge red flag to all who thought Mangini would never cut it.

Do you really believe that the Browns hired Mangini because he had ties to the Browns years ago. Do you believe this club did not reach out to other sources for backround and inside info on Mangini? Does it not tell you all something that the Browns felt strong enough about Mangini that they hired him before there GM ? Do you think that maybe they did not want to allow others the chance to interveiw him because they know they have gotten themselves a steal.

Now I am reading from many posters who were the first to write how Mangini would never get another HC job, that the Browns are stupid and Mangini will fall flat on his face there as well. Well fellow fans after 40 years of this dog and pony show, my gut tells me Mangini is given 4 years no questions asked and turns the Browns completely around and makes them a playoff team.

I also invision in two years many here on this board crying about the Jets giving up on Mangini too early and how the Jets cannot seem to do anything right. Folks after 40 years this is just how things play out for this club. You youngsters will learn in time what I am telling you is the God honest truth. It's too late for me, I will be a Jets fan for my remaining days on this earth. I hope that will be many more years and I will continue to hope to see my Jets win the big game one more time before I go. Yet, like death and taxes I know for sure that misery is the one thing I can count on as a Jets fan. Some years it's easier then other but sooner or later the misery always comes around. \

An in the case of Eric Mangini I feel this will be another large case of Jet Misery!!!!!!!

Mangini is a bright guy. His problem was too much attention to detail; he will learn from his experience here and probably wind up a successful coach for Cleveland. Meanwhile we are interviewing Brian "Baloney Sandwich" Schottenheimer...

While I agree with alot of what you say lets remember the Browns as a franchise are about a half step above the Lions or Bengals. They went out and hired a coach before they hired a GM for crying out loud. Since coming back in 1999 this is now their 4th coach. Also, this is the 2nd straight former Patsie coach to be their HC and if rumors are right it will be their 2nd straight former Raven to be their GM. I just think its an obsession with the Patsies and the team who left Cleveland for Baltimore. So lets not go out and call the Browns a model franchise beacuse they hired our sloppy seconds.

He got himself fired. The defense got shredded both against the pass and the run the last few games when he took over the defense by his own admission. He never put any pressure on the QB. When any QB has all the time to throw, he is going to find the open receiver. He apparently thought that that wouldn't happen but it did every game and Mangini never learned. The Jets ranked at the top in sacks at the beginning of the season and then they couldn't sack or even tried to put any pressure on the QB when Mangini thought he knew better.

Come on, don't put logic into this.......lol Now that Mangini is in Cleveland, the majority of Jet fans think hes Vince freaking Lombardi, just like they thought Chad was a HOF'er after he left.

Just a question for people here: If Mangini is such a smart and great coach, why couldn't he win with Chad, in fact benching him last year, while a rookie HC won 11 with him with less than the talent that the Jets had? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    - OK...and when he's taken over the defense in the previous 2 years we've performed much better after the bye.

    - He's not the guy who's supposed to put pressure on the QB. The players are.

    - Think Kris Jenkins might have tired a little bit over the course of the season? This is a 350 pound formerly fatter man playing the 3-4 nose position for the first time in his life. Plus, he got hurt.

    - I'd keep going but in my time here I've found saying this stuff is just fruitless and just contributes to an endless cycle of the same conversation. So...yea. I'll just concede and say yes..Eric Mangini is the sole reason our D fell apart in 2008. Eric Mangini is the sole reason the team fell apart after an 8-3 start. Eric Mangini is the Anti-Jet.

His time here was done, plain and simple. He'll move on, we'll keep saying he sucks 'til we get bored of it, and eventually the Jets will hire the New Guy.

Can't believe he was hired this fast, and although I liked Mangini and think he'll have a decent coaching career, if I were a Browns fan i wouldn't doing cartwheels over this.

Watch, we'll play Cleveland in week 17 next year, playoffs on the line. We play them?
